Was watching the Name of the Doctor yesterday. Great episode!

Anyway, was wondering; do you think the Doctor (from Doctor Who) would be saved by invincible ignorance if he was real? He has stated in his Tenth incarnation that he doesn’t believe in any specific god but he did offer a prayer in his second incarnation to the god(s) of the Time Lords.

He has literally saved billions of people through his efforts throughout the universe. Could such a hero end up in Hell?

An argument against him being saved by invincible ignorance is that he is extremely intelligent. He would know the ins and outs of all faiths including Catholicism. But maybe he just doesn’t quite understand it, perhaps?

This thread’s just for fun, but was wondering what all your opinions would be on this.

That would be tricky to say!..firstly the bible applies to those from earth but only god would know if the same rules applied to aliens

I love watching dr who too, i watched it yesterday too

If he were a real person, God’s grace would work on him to bring him to the Church. 🙂

In his fictional world, he has to remain non-religious in order to appeal to television audiences.

Not completely non religious, or at least not unaware. David Tennant’s Doctor stated that he was at the First Christmas – and got the last room at the inn:D

AHA, so it was all his fault … 😛

btw – I was disppointed w/ yesterday’s episode.
lol I have been disappointed with the whole second half of this series but yesterday’s episode was the one that restored my faith in Moffat!

Yes but I believe he said he was also at the resurrection and knew what “really” happened. Tsk tsk.

When ever I’m in chapters I always enjoying swinging by the philosophy section because they have these cute books called ‘Philosophy of <insert tv/movie here>’. The premise is that based on the rules of different universes what is an is not moral.

example: necromancy in the world of the mummy isn’t evil per say but in our world it is a bit more forbidden.

So it depends

I was rather impressed by it - especially the subtle misdirection in the episode title. Everyone was up in arms, thinking that we were going to hear the Doctor’s birth name. What we got was an episode whose ending focused on the name, “The Doctor”. Fantastic!

Who knows? Yeah, you said it’s all in fun, but it has real world applications.

Sometimes you meet wonderful people with generous, courageous hearts and they aren’t christians. Do you try to evaluate their destinies too? You can’t. You have to trust God to do His job. OUR job is to share Christ with them. Bonus: those whispered wonderings in your mind are much easier to silence when those you love come to love Jesus as well!

Ghandi was certainly an outstanding example of a man, he was clearly familiar with the christian gospel and yet he didn’t convert. What gives? Not my job to decide, thank God!

From watching the show, the character is clearly created good, but fallen due to sin. A man in need of a Savior just like us. Often times, he even recognizes it. An interesting example (SPOILER) is at the end of Waters of Mars when the Mars mission commander committed suicide. His recognition of his own pride and arrogance seem to have about destroyed him. That was good stuff, if sadly dark.
