Would this be a Vigil?

Our parish offers a 7 am Mass on Monday, which I attend. They also offer Vespers @ 5:15 pm and then Mass at 5:30 pm. This may be a dumb question but I’m still new and still learning my faith!

My question is would the 5:30 Mass count as a Vigil for Tuesday and also, since I attend Mass once that day could I still go to the 5:30 pm Mass and received the Eucharist again? Thanks!

I don’t believe the concept of a vigil exists except for a day of obligation (Sunday or Holy Day), since, if there is no obligation, there is no need to “count” the mass for the next day.

You are, in fact, allowed to receive communion twice in the same day, as long as at least one of these times is during a mass.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure about whether or not there were Vigils other than the usual Saturday Vigil and Vigil for Holy Days, so I’m thankful to you for answering that question so clearly!

I thought I could receive twice but wasn’t sure. My reason for asking BTW was that I try to attend Mass everyday as a personal devotion and the only day I cannot is on Tuesday b/c the Mass would conflict with the start of my work day (Mass 8:10, Work 8:30). Again, thank you so much for your great answer!!

To clarify, you can receive twice so long as the second time is within the context of Mass. The context of the first doesn’t matter, the context of the second is necessary.

You’re right, though, that “vigil” isn’t really a concept outside of larger feasts (and now Sundays). Vigil used to be a more specific term than it is now because vigil liturgies were different from the liturgy of the day they look forward to (kind of like how the Easter Vigil has different readings from Easter Day) as opposed to just being the Mass of the day a little early. Vigils were penitential days, with certain vigils even binding with fast and maybe abstinence. The day didn’t have to be one of obligation, either. I think, for instance, that one of John the Baptist’s feasts had a vigil attached to it.

With the specification of why the OP wanted answers, though, my advice would be 1) you can structure your own spiritual practices however you want, so even though Monday evening isn’t the vigil of Tuesday, you can decide it counts anyway and 2) the new liturgical day starts after Vespers, so if you resolve to not use Sunday evening for your Sunday “count” it would be entirely consistent to divide your days based on this rhythm of the Office - you could even make sure to pray Vespers/Evening Prayer before Mass Monday evening in order to make the distinction of days clear.

Only Holy Days have Vigils, Sunday is a Holy day.

no the anticipated Mass is only on Saturday evening for Sunday. An evening Mass on Monday is the Mass for Monday with the readings of the day (unless it is a votive Mass, funeral, wedding etc.). A Vigil is a Mass for the day before a Holy Day (solemnity) and has its own readings, whatever time of the day it is celebrated.
