Would this be considered desecrating a scapular?

I once had this beautiful scapular which has two saints hooked to a brown thread, unfortunately, it got too small for my neck.

What I’m thinking of doing is buying a bigger/longer thread cutting the old thread and hook the two saints to it.

Would this still be considered desecrating a scapular even if it’s not enrolled and/or blessed. Would it still have the same “graces?”

Scapulars, like any sacramental, are items that allow us to become closer to God. They are not meant to be confused with the sacraments whereby we encounter Christ in matter. Your intention is not to desecrate the scapular but to make it more useful as a means of connecting yourself to God. Unlike the sacraments, sacramentals do not hold “special graces” since the grace is already contained in the prayer that accompanies the use of any sacramental. Deliberate desecration of any holy object can be sinful for obvious reasons. But I think that because you asked this question gives reason to believe that your actions are holy and pleasing to God.
