If I’m turning 18 this year in July but I want to see a movie that’s PG 18, can I still go for it even though I haven’t reached my 18th birthday yet? Since It’s the year when I become 18 anyway. The movie is ‘Hackshaw’ if you all are wondering, nothing obscene or bad

I guess the first question is what does the “PG-18” rating entail? is it an advisory rating such as “parents of children under 18 are strongly advised to accompany them to this movie” or is it “no one under 18 will be allowed” like the NC-17 rating here in the US?

If the former, it’s a prudential judgement (and you may want to get your parents’ (name removed by moderator)ut), if the latter, wait till you turn 18.

If it’s a law that you can’t see that movie under 18, you need to obey the law (wait until you turn 18). If it is just a suggestion, you should get your parents permission as Pat said. There is a third case possible, where it’s not against the law but against the movie theater’s policy. In that case, sneaking in or faking your age would be a sin since a business can decide who they will or will not do business with. In other words, the business creates the terms of service for their customers. It’s a contract. Deliberately breaking the rules of the contract is against the law.

But if your parents and policies permit, go see it. It’s an excellent movie with a Christian theme.

Hacksaw Ridge is an excellent movie, it should not be rated PG-18.

The ratings people and Hollywood probably do not like the fact that this guy stuck to his faith and his beliefs, even when facing prison.

it is not in the theatres anymore. if it is out in DVD you could probably watch it in the privacy of your home since you are so close to 18.
maybe I am wrong in suggesting that.

Could be the graphic violence which even I found very disturbing.

Well, the law is that movie theatres can’t let patrons in to the move who are under 18. No specific law against showing M 18 movies to under 18s in the privacy of your own home and I seriously doubt, if the person involved is close to 18, that it would be considered problematic, for example by Child Services or anyone else.

I think it was the graphic and intense violence. It was sickening. Not really in a bad way… Sometimes in movies like this, or like Saving Private Ryan, the sickening is apt. War is sickening.

I think it’s curious how people seem to have a less-strong reacton to blood and guts though.
