Would this be wrong?

I wanted some advice and see what others think. Would it be wrong to request in prayer for something from God and promising him that you would do something if he removed the obstacles that hinder the action?

More specific: A single mom who really wants to home school her children, but needs to work and has an ex, the kid’s dad, who would object to it. Would it be wrong for her to ask the Lord to remove all obstacles for her to home school? Is this bargaining with God?
 
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with asking God for whatever you need. There is of course, no guarantee that He will answer in the way that you want. But he will always hear your prayer and answer in due time in the way that is best.

Abraham, after all, bargained with God quite brazenly.
 
that doesn’t sound like bargaining to me. if she were bargaining, it would go something like “dear lord, if you remove all the obstacles to homeschooling my kids, i will give up my nefarious plot against my ex-husband.” something she wants for something god wants. 🙂

the situation you’re describing is just someone asking for help, isn’t it? no problem there.
 
Thanks so much. I just wanted to make sure. I agree Abraham did bargain with God and forgot that. My sister is just asking for help to make it possible to home school her children for her ex is impossible to work with. Thanks for your advice.
 
If it were me, I would pray “Dear Lord - if it is your will that I homeschool my children, I trust you to make the way possible.”

Yes, I agree that is what we were going to do for it is all according to His will for He foresees what we don’t.

Instead of using the “If you do this for me, I will do this for you” format, she should pray for the understanding of her ex and the blessing of a job that would also allow for her to home school. Better yet, she should ultimately pray for His will. I try to end every prayer as Jesus did in the garden, “not my will, but yours be done.”
