If a person offers you something that you don’t really want but you say yes you have committed a lie. But would such a lie be mortally sinful?
I don’t know how old you are, or how long you have been making an effort to be truthful, but I will tell you that for us sinful humans in a fallen world, it is not that simple. There are many communications between people that have several facets. If someone offers you something part of the communication there is “I care about you.” In many situations to reject the offer has the implication of rejecting the person. If you joyfully accept the gift that is offered because you joyfully accept the love that is offered that is not a lie. When there is any conflict in different facets of truth which might be expressed in a single action consider carefully what is the more important truth. Is it more important to express to the person offering the gift your exact feelings about the gift, or your desire to strengthen your relationship with that person, who is a child of God? Ask a mother of a 3 year old who has just gotten a present of a crayon smeared undecipherable drawing if it is important at that moment to convey how little that drawing resembles the work of Van Gogh.If a person offers you something that you don’t really want but you say yes you have committed a lie. I do not understand this question. Could you try re-wording it?But what if you lie so stop people from releasing a personal fault?
This is still somewhat vague, but is sounds like you are trying to protect yourself. The lie itself does not appear to be of grave matter and the motive seems to be protection. I don;t think this would constitute a mortal sin, but I hesitate to answer a question like this.Say for example you had a medical condition, that you didn’t want someone to find out about.
Eating a certain type of food would make worse this ailment. But you didn’t want this person to know about this ailment so when you were offered this type of food by them to avoid arousing suspicions you willingly took it and said you wanted it when you didn’t really. You did this to avoid them finding out about your ailment.
Sorry if thats confusing. The situation above is purely a hypothetical one. I have made bold the part which is a lie but in this case would it be a mortal one?
Again I don’t think this is a lie, you can say “I want it” but you’re not specifying WHY you want it. It might be you just want it to avoid revealing another truth, if they assume you want it because you like the food that’s on them.Say for example you had a medical condition, that you didn’t want someone to find out about.
