Coke used to be made with real sugar (sucrose), but in recent years practically all soft drinks (except the diet versions of course) use corn syrup because of the price.

I never got an answer to my question about whether halal applies only to meat. Are there rules for halal vegetables, fish, etc, or are all vegetables halal?
It’s only for meat.

I don’t know. I think Islam permits all fruits and vegetables and Halal has only to do with slaughter of animals and which animals are edible.

Anyways, I just learned that the place where I go eat almost every day makes only halal food. To be honest I simply don’t care - it doesn’t ruin the food so I’m totally cool with it. It’s probably better that now the local Muslims can go and eat there without a problem.

THAT WOULD OFFNED ME not that they didnt bless it in the name of allah but that they did! what is thsi world coming 2 where we replace God with another 2 get money!!! well they will have 2 explain all this 2 God when they die

Well, I’ve seen Halal candies when I was shopping with a friend today.

that is because candy items such as “gummy bears” contain gelatin normally…muslims can not eat gelatin…so for gummy bears to be ok for muslims they have to be made according to the halal rules etc.
Haribo has been selling the cleric-approved Halal candies in the U.K. for about a month. They do not contain gelatin, which is unacceptable to Muslims because it is made of animal products forbidden under Islamic law, nor do the candies contain normal ingredients like Alcohol-based colorings and flavorings. So now they are totally Allah-approved.

Acts 15:20
Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.

Since, I consider Allah to be a false god, I would not eat there.
Okay Daniel, this I don’t grok. How does preparing food according to kosher or halal standards equate with offering it to an idol? I like these methods of butchering animals. They are more humane, more sanitary and uses and produces better tasing meat. That can only be a good thing. The fact that the halal methods don’t require muslims to perform them indicates that there is no idolatry involved.

I go out of my way to buy Nathan’s or Hebrew National hot dogs, not because they are kosher, but because they are the best tasting. After you’ve eaten a Nathan’s frank, you will never go back to Ball Park.

I don’t eat McDonald’s anyway, but if I did, I wouldn’t stop because of halal meat.

Since the Halal or Kosher meat tastes better than the “junk” that is sold otherwise…😃
I also eat Matzoh, and curries, chineese and korean food too along with lots of other ethnic foods:D
So when did you become jewish or are you becoming jewish…eating Kosher hotdogs and all:p
Karin,
I am coming over for dinner. 😃

I don’t really care if it’s halal or not… But one question… Why do that??? What’s the point? Is it that Muslims can’t eat normal burgers/nuggets? Does it HAVE to be halal??? What’s the big deal? If Muslims can’t eat normal meat, then I understand why they did that. Get more people buying because now they can actually eat the stuff… but otherwise??? Otherwise, I don’t see a point…

Yes. I’m sure God’s got a sticky note on his computer saying something like “re: McDonalds blessing food! Who’s ‘Allah’?”

That’s correct. Muslims have dietary laws that require the meat be “halal”. They wouldn’t be able to eat it otherwise.

No this wouldn’t offend me. For one, I know this isn’t an attack against me personally.
Two, I can’t stand McDonald’s. :rotfl:

I love McDonald’s but I haven’t had it in 3 whole weeks as I am on a diet and so far I have lost 4.5kgs 😃

But boy am I going to get a Big Mac and fries in a few months, and savour every bite 😛

Like a muslim, I’m restricted in what I can eat. But I’ve heard good things about White Castle…

Honestly, it does sort of bother me…but I don’t know why.

As long as it is clearly advertised, I’m ok with it, but I don’t like the idea of selling something that has been prepared to honor a specific set of religious beliefs…without being very clear about it.

Not because I feel it changes the nature of the meat itself, but something about intent…honesty…it doesn’t really make sense to me why I care, but I know I do.

I wouldn’t pass off something that I had prepared ritualistically in my faith, to someone of another faith without being very upfront about it. Because I realize that it may offend their faith to partake of it, and that I wasn’t being fully honest about my own faith to hide it.

As long as it is clear what is going on, I’m comfortable with it, then everyone can make a decision based on their conscious and the dictates of their faith about whether to partake or not.

I would be very hard pressed to think of an example of a store that sold Halal food and did not advertise it. It would be pointless.
