Would this world be better with Catholic leaders?

I’m just curious…

Would our world be a little bit better if all the nation’s leaders were Catholic? I would think so.

What do you guys think?
 
I don’t know. I personally like the whole seperation of Church and State thing. I mean what would happen if all our leaders where Penecostals or Mormons? I think it’s a good thing to have everyone represented in Government.

If that’s the case, then I would go and live in Rome to be fed the Truth. 😃
 
There was a time after Constantine and before the reformation when most of the Western world’s leaders were Catholics. People still went to war, stole, murdered, starved to death and in short sinned frequently. Since creation that has not changed. Would you have liked to live in say the 14th century as a peasant or a serf? Course you could have been a Royal or a high level Cleric but the world around while Catholic would not have been a piece of cake for most people. I guess maybe that is not a fair way of putting it because by now progress would have been made in science medicine and engineering even with all Catholic leadership. Thing is all Catholics are not created equal so to speak, some are good people, some are evil, and some are in between. Would life really be better? Chances are good that democratic forms of government would be non-existent.
 
Catholics, like me, are as subject to failing and being less
than we should be, just as everyone else is…

so, i think i’d have to say that, i wish all our leaders were
honest, thinking, self-less, caring people… if they were, it wouldn’t
matter what religion they professed…

do i think ‘good Catholics’ fit that bill?? yes i do…
but, i also know good Protestants who fit it equally well…

You would probably not have liked the Rome of 1470 to 1530 very much. Or that of the eighth, ninth, or eleventh centuries. Or Rome in the fifth century.​

You can be fed the truth from Rome in the US and here’s why I think you are better off in the US with a non-majority Catholic government. Even though it may be flawed, it’s still the best “game in town”. Think of some of the Catholic countries out there, Mexico? Colombia? Argentina? all very corrupt. The European Catholic countries are now so secular that Italy and Spain have the lowest birthrates in the world and most of Europe will potentially be majority Muslim in another 50 years.
 
Sad, but true, the Catholic Church functions best when it concentrates on saving peoples souls rather than bogging itself down in the secular government.

We have numerous examples of what that type of power can do to someone. We are all still human, after all.

Huh :confused: Are you kidding? Democracy has been perfected over the ages as a direct result of the Church’s influence on western society, especially from her constant insistence on the equal dignity of all persons.

This is generally the form of government which is now prevalent in the west. There is the President or King/Queen who rules over all, the Parliament/Congress and Senate who administrate under him (Aristocracy), and the electoral vote by all citizens under the law (Democracy).

The Church does not rule in the countries you mentioned. Spain has a socialist government and gay marriage has been legalized recently. In Mexico the Church was persecuted during decades. Etc, etc, etc. The dismal state of the present world is because governments do not follow Catholic doctrine.

I didn’t say the Church ruled those countries. I thought we were talking about Catholic leaders. Aren’t there Presidents or whatever practicing Catholics? I just assumed most people in those countries (including their leaders) would be Catholic?
 
It depends

George W Bush has appointed two new Supreme Court Justices that are Catholic, I believe the total on the Supreme Court is now 6, but 5 are conservative. This is a HUGE WIN!

Our Catholic leaders have to lead by example, stand up for what they believe is right, and hopefully our fellow Christians outside of our Church will support our ethics and morals that we bring to the table.

Yet

We have 2 high profile Catholic Senators in John Kerry and Ted Kennedy who are Catholic but they not only support a womans right to choose, but expect the tax payers to pay for it, so in this case no.
 
Please don’t call John Kerry and Ted Kennedy Catholic. How those two can walk up and take communion is beyond me.

Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Spanish Prime Minister, is an Atheist. Usually Presidents and Prime Ministers in Latin countries are not what we call “Catholics”. They are the kind of “democratic”, “relativistic”, “everything goes” rulers. And they consider the Church *only *as another social institution. Maybe the worst of all, because they can not buy it…

I think I mistook this. I thought it meant if the Church ran all the governments. We’ve already proven that wasn’t a good idea.

But… if all the World Leaders were good, God-Fearing, Catholics… Yes. That would be a good thing!

I wonder why countries with so many devout Catholics elect such bad leaders?
