Would We Be Able To Think In Heaven?

Thoughts are things made in our brains, which we will not have in Heaven. Everything we see and feel right now we only are aware of because it is what we are able to percept. We will not have these in Heaven. How, then, will people think in Heaven? It says in various places that we will not be bringing our bodies to Heaven (or Hell).

I believe we get our bodies at the Final Judgement, they will just be perfect and glorified.

I don’t know if we will think in Heaven. I think entirely way too much, like I can’t shut my mind off and well, I jump from topic to topic. Perks of ADHD. lol. Maybe we can turn off our thoughts in Heaven. I need a break, if I make it there.

If we can think with a brain, I’m sure God knows how to help us think us a spirit, which we’ll be until we are resurrected. After his resurrection, Christ, with his glorified body, thought, spoke, and even ate. He was frying fish on the shore of Lake Tiberius when some of his apostles didn’t recognize him. I think we’ll be able to do all the things we can do now, but much better, and we will not be subject to death and decay.

Your mind is spiritual, and in Heaven, we will have spiritual bodies (Pneumatikon soma).

Your spiritual soul produces your mind, but needs your head to operate your eyes, ears, nose, limbs, etc. as well as organize the thoughts in time (time is physical).

Your soul will preserve your mind until you have your new head.

But once that has happened, there will be different intellects, as there are now.

Created spirits can think. Angels can think, even the fallen. The saints who are in Heaven but do not have glorified bodies can pray for us in intercession, and therefore they can think, too.

We will have self-control and will be healed of all infirmities, so we will not be tormented by obsessive thoughts. Our desires will be perfected, and so we will not have the trial of thinking of things we should not want to think about.

Different intellects? Like we will still have to deal with stupidity in Heaven?

Compared to God, what is stupidity? A limit to the capacity to perceive and understand?

We will be perfectly loving, and therefore there will be no self-centered blindness in Heaven, nor any self-centered incapacity to deal with the blind. It will not matter to us one way or another if we or anyone else has some mental capacity or other in Heaven, whether it is high or low. We will be attuned to the will of God and delighted to follow the will of God, and therefore we will be entirely pleased to do and live through whatever it pleases God to do or to allow others to do.

It is all going to be finer than frog’s fur, fine beyond our ability to imagine it.

CCC 1000 This “how” exceeds our imagination and understanding; it is accessible only to faith. Yet our participation in the Eucharist already gives us a foretaste of Christ’s transfiguration of our bodies:

Just as bread that comes from the earth, after God’s blessing has been invoked upon it, is no longer ordinary bread, but Eucharist, formed of two things, the one earthly and the other heavenly: so too our bodies, which partake of the Eucharist, are no longer corruptible, but possess the hope of resurrection.554

If that were the case, resurrection would have little significance other than representing the soul’s return to its bodily prison…The Rambam says there will be no eating, drinking or sleeping in the World to Come (Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Laws of Repentance 8:2). This statement was the focal point of a dispute between Maimonides and Nachmonides, and has been deeply misunderstood. In the World to Come, the body will not be resurrected and then die. Maimonides says that after resurrection, the body will cease to be a body as we know it (ibid.). This cessation implies that the body will instead become so holy that it will become spiritual, transcending the physical limitations imposed upon it in this earthly world. Nevertheless, it will retain its sense of self-existence, its sense of being.”

It would seem that in heaven there is a new beginning where the soul lives outside of time in an eternal present, with no past and no future. Consequently, life would be without the many thoughts of both the past and the future that plague and often torment humans in the temporal world.
