Would you be upset if you gave money for one purpose and it was used elsewhere?

If you gave money to a charitable organization for hurricane victims, would you be outraged if it went to pay for the war in Iraq instead?
Yes, that would definitely make me very mad.
If you gave money to your school for the purchase of new computers, would you be dismayed to see it spent on administrators’ salaries instead?
This would also make me very mad.
If you gave money to aid a family member in need of a tuition payment, would you be upset to see it used to finance a trip to the beach?
Again, I’d be pretty mad.
Yes, this is a spin-off of another thread. Just curious if those who give money with an intention in mind are wrong to want to see it go to where it’s intended to be allocated.
I expect the money I give to go to a specific purpose. This is especially so if it is very important.

I tend to have the attitude that if I give a gift of anything, I cannot be upset if it goes elsewhere. Reason being? It’s a lot less stress if I just leave that good intention up to the unknown.

I’ve had plenty donations of mine wind up feeding and clothing people that had quite enough resources already. It didn’t make me mad, because somehow, for one moment, those people seemed to really need it, even if they really didn’t. For that, my wish came true - for it to help someone, even if it wasn’t who I wanted to help.

I also tend to be a big believer in what goes around comes around, too. 😉

When we give money to someone for a specific purpose, pay a bill, buy groceries, pay rent, we are unhappy to find out the money was spent at the casino. However, if we simply give a grandchild a gift of money for his/her birthday, the child can purchase whatever he/she wishes as long as it is safe and legal.

Love and peace,

Seems you, as well as PA have a very serious “control” issue, as do many.

A control issue? If someone says I need $10 for gas and then goes and buys a 6 pack of beer with it it’s not normal to be mad? Now the giver is a control freak?

When someone uses money in a way other then it was intended that’s lying. I don’t think either of these posters have issues of control they have issues with dishonesty which most of us should have.

I view this scenario above as more of a problem with the giver, as not having the wisdom or discernment to distinguish this to begin with.

Sparkle, I see you did not heed my advice to pray before hitting submit…please take a moment to consider that you may not be right. In fact, you may be so completely clouded by issues that I have no right to ask about that you are deliberately being uncharitable to the posters who do not agree with you.

It is great that you have so much wisdom and are able to discern everything so well before you act. (take a moment here to reflect on your own life to see if this is true).

But most of us are human, and when someone has not given us a reason not to trust them, we are more than happy to help out. But when someone abuses that trust we (rightly) get upset. That has nothing to do with control. Or maybe in your world it does?

Speaking of control…This thread–starting with the original post and poll–seems to be about control. It seems targeted at one particular person and comes across as bullying–with a number of people ganging up on someone who has made herself vulnerable by revealing a lot about herself. Perhaps we all should step back and think about the reasons why we are posting. Some of the underlying sentiments might better be expressed as private messages and prayer.

I voted Yes. Call it a control issue… but my reason for answering in the affirmative, is that I would be mortified if the money I gave was used for an immoral purpose. I wouldn’t care so much if I gave someone money for a new bicycle, and they bought an X-Box instead. I would be upset if I gave them money for school books, and they procured an abortion with it…
