Has anyone thought about boycotting Canada or any of these other governments that have legalized same sex marriages?

1. boycott goods from Canada (I can’t think of any goods that come from Canada)

2. boycott movies, magazines, books and newspapers that come from Canada.

3. Don’t support Canada’s toursism industry. DO NOT VACATION IN CANADA!

Question: If an American same sex couple married in Canada are they considered married in the United States?

I voted “No”. My reasoning is that to boycott a country in this case Canada…would leave the door wide open for them to boycott us and our products when we did something they did not agree with.

I guess I should have been more specific. I did not mean for the U.S. government to boycott a country (our government would never do such a thing, it wouldn’t be PC). We as concerned Catholics, Christians or any other members of a religion that is teaches homosexual relations is a sin could and maybe should boycott the country. We are already encouraged to boycott corporations that sponser homosexual groups why not consider boycotting a country?

OK this makes it clearer now. Yeah I can see boycotting a company but to boycott a country…i dont know…I enjoy traveling and seeing new places etc. this would totally limit the places I could go and see. But the same problem arises do we(catholics, christians etc.) boycott the USA because we allow Abortions etc.?

No, but we can vote, protest, write letters to our government officials and boycott corporations that give money to pro-abortion groups like planned parenthood, etc.

Hi GloriaPatri4!

When I read the question, I initially thought: “How would one do this?” When one considers that the proper object for one’s ire would be the government that instituted the bad law, and not the corporations whose goods we mean to boycott, it becomes an issue for our own Executive and Legislative branches to figure out.

To illustrate how misguided this my individual action might be, boycotting Spain, for instance, might include not buying the Spanish wine that is produced in the regions who are protesting their parliament’s action.

Yup, a majority of people do that …does not seem to help. But perhaps if I write to Canada’s goverment expressing my disapproval that would work…I really dont want to stop traveling just because a countries views are against mine.

I would have to figure that you DO boycott companies and organizations that currently go against Catholic teaching?

So IF the Supreme Court were to say yes to gay marriage, would you boycott the U.S. government?

I know that God’s law DOES trump national government, I’m just courious what is the stance of the Church on boycots and such?

Hi Eric!

I see your point but I think if Canada’s economy was suffering because of a law that its government passed perhaps Canadians would wake up and smell the coffee.

Imagine if all the Catholics/Christians in the world boycotted places like Thailand because of its child prostitution I think after a while they would get the message.

A lot of bottled water comes from Canada, the majority of it I believe. My family has owned a summer home in Canada for 50 years and I can not tell you how much I enjoy it up there. I will not be boycotting any country that allows gay marriage. Besides, we have a state in our own country that allows gay marriage.

Like boycotting the USA for killing Terri Shiavo???

I had to vote “no” because there would be no where to live.

Unless divorce and remarriage, adultery, fornication, pornography, birth control, and abortion are made illegal within the next few years, gay marriage will be legal everywhere.

The problem started when divorce was legalized.

The whole concept of Catholic marriage was destroyed decades ago. And most people want it that way.

How many gay marriages there will be is another question. Because with gay marriage comes gay divorce. Gay divorce, especially a couple of lesbians divorcing each other, is going to be pretty nasty.

I voted yes. Since moving to the Detroit area, I have been debating whether to cross the bridge and visit the other side of the Detroit River. The only reason was curiosity.

With the hostility the Canadian has shown for Christians recently, I have decided to stay on this side of the river.
