Many Canadians are against same-sex marriage and have spoken up against it. If Canada is to be boycotted because of this unfortunate decision this would probably hurt the common Canadian more than it would hurt the goverment.
That common Canadian could very well be a Catholic who’s for the traditional definition of marriage. Maybe this Canadian is owning and running a tourist resort and he/she is a major contributor to his/her local Catholic Church.
Because of this boycott he/she will loose his/her business and go bankrupt and will not be able to support his/her local Church. The local Church have to cut out important activities like religious education for the childfren. I can go on and on.
The bottom line is that boycott can seriously harm innocent people and have a non-intended effect.
I have chosen Canada as my new homeland. I come from a country (Norway) which have had same-sex civil unions for over 10 years. I have since then voted for one of the political parties that are against same-sex civil unions. The day I will become a Canadian citizen I will use my vote wisely.
