Would you consider boycotting a country that has legalized same sex marriage?

Many Canadians are against same-sex marriage and have spoken up against it. If Canada is to be boycotted because of this unfortunate decision this would probably hurt the common Canadian more than it would hurt the goverment.

That common Canadian could very well be a Catholic who’s for the traditional definition of marriage. Maybe this Canadian is owning and running a tourist resort and he/she is a major contributor to his/her local Catholic Church.

Because of this boycott he/she will loose his/her business and go bankrupt and will not be able to support his/her local Church. The local Church have to cut out important activities like religious education for the childfren. I can go on and on.

The bottom line is that boycott can seriously harm innocent people and have a non-intended effect.

I have chosen Canada as my new homeland. I come from a country (Norway) which have had same-sex civil unions for over 10 years. I have since then voted for one of the political parties that are against same-sex civil unions. The day I will become a Canadian citizen I will use my vote wisely.

:clapping: Let us unite and sanctify Canada!!! There is no coincidence with God…we are here for a reason! Let us bloom where we are planted. If anybody boycotts us, it sure would add to our sanctification, now wouldn’t it?

Please, do not lump us with our government…just as I do not lump all Americans with the killing of Terri Shiavo!

This poll cracks me up.

Boycott an entire country cause they legalized gay marriage? 😛

Whats more important…abortion or gay marriage?

Answer abortion… so please… if you’re an american and thinks its a good idea to be elitist and boycott Canada… then you must follow the end result of your own logic and LEAVE AMERICA… cause you MUST boycott this country… it only makes sense right? …or now does it NOT make such good sense? 😉

If you aint gonna leave America cause abortion is legal, but would stay out of Canada cause gay marriage is legal…thats being a hypocrite. Just as there are frivolous lawsuits there are frivolous boycotts… this reminds me of the whole stupid… boycott France and call your potatos “Freedom Fries” jazz…

No, I would not boycott a country for legalized gay marriages, for a couple of reasons.
  1. If we boycott the entire nation, we are boycotting all it’s citizens, including those who opposed legalization. We should not alienate good people while attempting to punish those we judge to be evil.
  2. Jesus did not boycott prostitutes, thieves, drunkards, lepers, or even tax collectors. He walked among these people, he ate with them, drank with them, ministered to them, saved their souls and led them to the Father.
To be Christian is to be like Christ. Boycotting is the opposite of Christ, but to be a good example to wayward souls is to be like Christ.

Please do not “boycott Canada”… As it has been said, it would do more harm to the people than to the government. Do not abandon us, we need all the help we can get… :crying:

Chris Jacobsen:
The whole concept of Catholic marriage was destroyed decades ago. And most people want it that way.
I think maybe frustration with some social developments has led to this statement. Aside from the semantic problem (you can’t destroy a concept), millions of Catholics embrace the teachings of the Church on marriage. But, this doesn’t make news because happily married couples have no need for sensationalism and about the most they get is a picture in the newspaper when they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

As a practical matter, I would venture that in countries where gay marriage is legalized, there are still large numbers who respect and uphold principles of Catholic marriage.

But the same problem arises do we(catholics, christians etc.) boycott the USA because we allow Abortions etc.?
No, but we can vote, protest, write letters to our government officials and boycott corporations that give money to pro-abortion groups like planned parenthood, etc.
Yeah, we’re stuck here, so can’t very well boycott the US. However, perhaps we should encourage outsiders to boycott the US for these reasons.:hmmm:

Oh man can you just imagine what would happen to our economy if that occured?!

There are many aspects to a boycott. I think a boycott would work. It would put increasing pressure on Paul Martin who is now under the gun because of the sponsorship scandal. Tourism from the U.S. is a big industry in Canada. On the Huron coast you can always see an American flag flying alongside a Canadian flag. Write to the members of parliament, newspapers, and tourist sites for the places you have visited before and tell them that you will no longer be spending your tourist dollar there and then tell them why.

It is true that Canada can turn around and boycott the U.S. for something. Not abortion though, because our Morgentaler ruling is more entrenched than your Roe v Wade. If everyone is boycotting then maybe a new perception of international relations will emerge. The human dimension as opposed to the commercial dimension will gain supremacy.

oh stickman…we go another round I see 🙂 …no not always anti-israel…i was just saying that perhaps if other countries boycott the US our economy would suffer…so perhaps our friends in the ME would help bolster it …you know we give them much aid and they could return the favor is all 😃

LOL!!! Oh, my bad. Sorry. Didn’t realize it was a hypothetical. Btw, away from the hypothetical and back to reality. We give Israel less than 0.001% of our GDP. Methinks thou exaggerates regarding Israel in a greater percentage than America gives to Israel.

I voted ‘no.’

For 1) I’m already living in the country.

And 2) It wouldn’t be fair that others altogether might suffer for the problems created by minorities or their idiotic government.

And 3) If you boycott a country, then how are you supposed to get in there and spread the Gospel Message? That is like abandonment. Should one abandon the Catholic Church over a few scandals?

Boycotting a country isn’t an answer, it is not what you’re called to do. There is no need to kick the dust off your sandals and leave… yet.

We can not abandon the people. But, can you tell us which companies supported this and how we can boycott them?

Even here in the lower 48 we try to not support those companies that support aborthion and other issues we do not agree with. So is there a site with this information?

Email Jim Hughes at Campaign Life Coalition and ask him for the names of the sponsoring companies. If he doesn’t know, then ask him to refer you to a website that does know.
