My friend recently gave me this t-shirt that features a picture of a baby’s face (from the womb). It reads: 'She smiles, hears, kicks and feels pain." And then in big bold letters:

Abortion kills children.

On the back it says, “American Life League’s Third Annual National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day. April 26, 2005”

I am trying to decide if I am brave enough to wear this t-shirt in public. After seeing people get bashed for political and other reasons, I am thinking twice.

Have you experienced a backlash from people (strangers or otherwise) simply because of a t-shirt or bumper sticker like this?

Someone once ripped off our bumper sticker and all it said was Catholic Radio and the FM dial.

Your opinions, if you please.

Thanks in advance.

Darn tootin’ I would, But then again I like to keep the stink in peoples noses.

And yea, I like to make up nice ol’ confrontational signs to put on my truck, and have had several people give me the finger or try to run me off the road.

Screw them.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight! Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and valiant men in mixing strong drink, who acquit the guilty for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of his right! Therefore, as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and as dry grass sinks down in the flame, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom go up like dust; for they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 5:20-24

…let the decision be yours… don’t be swayed by those that will talk the talk but won’t walk it… i support you (for what that’s worth) whatever decision you make…

good luck!👍

I was a bit taken aback at the reactions we got the first time I went to a political rally with some friends carrying pro-life signs. It was when Clinton visited St. Louis during his first campaign for president. People started harrassing us pretty quickly and they brought in some people who purported to be “officials” trying to tell us we couldn’t stand where we were etc.

I wasn’t ready for it but some of the others were arguing back as it was at a public event in the middle of the street (which was blocked off by the police) before the Courthouse. They were able to kind of push and shove and jostle us enough to get us away from the area right in front of the podium.

Then when we left, we met up with a couple of others, but at least one “gentleman” was upset enough at one of the posters one of the newcomers was carrying which was fairly graphic that he started yelling and screaming at us as the crowd was leaving. Once again I was taken aback as I hadn’t expected the vehemence of the reaction. He was right next to me & I was half preparing for a fistfight as he was yelling at me.

I know a nun whose car has been vandalized at least a couple of times presumably because of pro-life bumper stickers, though I didn’t think they were all that controversial. They seemed to be pretty run of the mill pro-life bumper stickers to me.

I’ve had a "YOU CAN’T BE BOTH CATHOLIC & PRO-ABORTION bumper sticker on my car since the last election, however, and have had virtually no public reaction from anyone on the highway, around town or in parking lots & I have parked next to cars with “Kerry Edwards” bumper stickers on several occasions.

I probably wouldn’t wear the shirt to some pro-abortion meeting, but would probably try to screw up enough courage to wear it on in public otherwise. Just think, it might not only save a life or two or ???, but might also save a woman or two the heart wrenching tragedy of carrying around the guilt of deliberately killing one of her own children for the rest of her life &/or might save someone’s immortal soul. We can hardly put a value on the good that might be done.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you weren’t forced to pay a price for your witness, however. I would encourage you to do so anyway, though, and I think Our Lord would too.

Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you. You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing anymore but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matt 5:10-16)

Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Be glad in that day and rejoice: for behold, your reward is great in heaven, For according to these things did their fathers to the prophets. (Luke 6:22-23)

I am considering wearing it in the hopes that it could change one mind to allow even one child to live. I am afraid though. I sense that people on the opposite side are not afraid to get violent and I could get the “stuffing” knocked out of me or our tires slashed.

Thank you for all of your posts so far. I do appreciate the time it took to write.

Don’t mean to be a scaredy-cat. Has anyone experienced trouble wearing shirts like this?

I’ve experienced no trouble, but I was just given my first prolife shirt recently and I live in a conservative, prolife state (except for the governor: Kansas) so I don’t expect trouble. DH and I have a “Terri Schiavo was Murdered!” bumper sticker and we have one or two more Catholic stickers that we haven’t put on the car yet. Susan, the devil is bold so we believers have got to be ever so much bolder! God bless you!

Yes, I would dare. Now if someone wanted to try to beat me up for it-let 'em try. They’d have a little surprise coming-I would defend myself and I’d have them arrested. Of course, I’ve also been known to put graphic pro-life literature on cars with pro-abortion bumper stickers-aborted babies in plain view and I’d write on the literature-“This is a choice??” I haven’t done that in a few years, however. Now, where is my pro-life literature…

I would wear it in a minute. As far as back lash did Paul stop converting souls after he was whipped. Your life is the only Gospel that some people may ever read!🙂

You’ve got a lot of guts. :yup:

It would be verrry easy for my “stuffin” to get punched out. I would be an easy target.

I’m kinda new to this. I’ll take everything everyone has said into consideration. I’m already considered odd ( 😛 ) so what’s one more, right?

Thanks, everyone, for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Oh, btw, I’m likely to get caught up in a debate. (Listen to me, :o , trying to cover all the angles-laugh). Any recommendations on how to conduct myself?

  1. pray a lot
  2. read lots of prolife literature and news (I recommend lifesite.net ) so you know what’s going on, and if antilifers skew the story, you can show them how much you know
my Mother my Confidence,

Please wear it! I will be praying for you.
I truly believe that there is nothing that is more powerful for educating people about the truth about abortion, than a picture of a baby in the womb.
I will be very honest & open here…I was not always prolife. I called myself “prochoice”. I believed the lies I was told, that “it is not a baby, it is just a blob”. I thought I was being smart. I thought a lot of very foolish things that I am now ashamed of. (Fortunately, I was never in a position where it occurred to put my foolishness into action! Thank the Lord!)**Then I saw a sonogram of a tiny baby…That is what it took to wake me up!! **
I know it is scary. And I do not want to see you get hurt. But maybe you will convince one woman that a baby is a baby…I will pray for you, no matter what you decide.
God bless.

I have had pro-life bumper stickers on my van for a number of years. Nobody has tried to take them off, or egg my van or anything, but sometimes I get very strange looks from people who pass me. I usually think “What’s their problem? I didn’t do anything to them.” Then I remember my bumper stickers!

I remember hearing Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life talk about how often they hear from women who were trying to decide whether or not to have an abortion and they asked for some sign from God, then they see someone’s pro-life bumper sticker and choose life for their child! You never know how it might affect someone.

Just make sure you are charitable and loving, even if someone starts to taunt you or attack you. You might even have some pro-life literature in your purse in case someone starts asking you questions!

Someone ripped off my Red Sox bumper sticker, and left my Feminists for Life sticker alone. I live in Boston. Who knows why anyone would rip off that sticker…

I’ve got that same shirt; I wasn’t sure what sort of response I’d get either when I wore it, but reactions were surprisingly benign. I got some stares, but mostly encouragement.

I would wear it with joy, but if you are truly afraid of some physical confrontation, then you may not want to wear it if you will be with young children who could be in the line of whatever is directed at you. Also, be advised that if anyone tries to rip the shirt off you or otherwise hassles you or shoves you, you can threaten to press criminal charges against the person for assault (if physically touched or threatened) or harassment (if verbally assaulted). Your right to wear the shirt is also protected under the First Amendment right to freedom of speech.

WOW - I think that I will put on “that” bumper sticker today.

Susan - Wear the shirt…give it a try… and let us know what happened.

Also, I am 7 months pregnant…would anyway dare to wear one of those new shirts that say “I DIDN’T HAVE AN ABORTION”?..just curious…I’ve thought about purchasing one.

I’ve got the same t-shirt and wore it a few weeks ago on National Pro-life t-shirt day around a liberal college campus. Definitely got some stares but no threats to my life! In fact, a few people in some of my classes struck up conversation with me about it! You should definitely do it…get the word out about life!! :dancing:

You should wear it! It is the truth! Spread the word that abortion kills!:yup:
