Would you die for your faith or your friends?

I was looking at the cover of the March issue of CA magazine and noticed the title, 'Would you die for your faith?" And the thought struck me do we really die for a our faith or do we die for a person? That is our faith may cause us to act but the faith is not an end unto itself. The end is a person; the end is Jesus. Thus wouldn’t it be more correct to say we would die for Jesus rather than for faith? Our faith, hope and love in Jesus is what gives us hope to believe in a Ressurection of the dead.

Maybe just a context of the words chosen.
It is rather a ‘both / and’ response as opposed to ’ either / or '.

All the apostles, accept John, and numerous other were martyred for their faith, and in their faith, of the risen Christ.

Christ told us that no greater love does someone have that to lay down their life for their friends (John 15:13).
(( I am sure there at least a couple dozen veterans that would tesitify to that ).

I guess you can say you would die for Christ, your faith in Christ, if you were challenged by death to denounce Him. And lifewise, for your friends.

Saying we’re “dying for Jesus” is tantamount to saying we’re dying for the faith. They’re not different things.

The answer is both, not one or the other. One IS the other.

The two are entangled. Religious faith is often an ingroup/outgroup separator and the clustering of people of the same religious faith can lead can lead to individuals that share a common/similar faith to be friends. To die for one’s faith might not be far removed from one that dies for his/her friends.
