Good posting everyone, I agree!! Asking questions kind of shows you’re special! Don’t ever stop!
🙂
first you say im driving away from understanding catholicism from asking this…then you say its good to keep asking??

Some of the examples you give are hard for me to relate to because in my faith, there is no point in doing things just to “prove” faith. The best proof of faith is to live with integrity and fully by my beliefs. And I have done a whole lot towards that end, but most of the things are purposeful. Now, those people may find what they are doing purposeful as well, but those types of things are not seen as necessarily purposeful in themselves in my faith.

I have spoken up when I observed injustice, left jobs because people did not behave honestly and forthwrightly, lived in poverty, made a variety of sacrafices of time, energy, money, comfort, etc, because of my faith, but I do these things because I believe my faith is the truth, and the best way to live. I don’t do them to “prove” anything to anyone, natural or supernatural.

The moment a person stops asking questions is the moment he or she will stop learning. So by no means should you allow people to prevent you from asking questions. I’m sure most others feel the same way here: Having questions asked gives us a chance to find out exactly what we believe and how to make sense of it; so it’s a two way street, and it helps both sides. The questioner gets to understand the Faith and know it better–perhaps even commit to it one day if he/she is ever convinced by the reasoning–and those being questioned get to reflect on the Faith, making it richer and more meaningful to them.

Even if we never come to agree on some of the answers, you’ve learned something, if only a more accurate picture of what we actually believe/would do/etc So whenever you’ve got sincere questions (some people, yourself not included it seems, may ask tricky rhetorical-type questions just to try to be sarcastic or mock the Faith with no intentions of paying any sincere attention to the answers), it’s no problem, no matter what your age.👍
