why would you need any apps when everything you need in the service is there in the service.
Nothing is there but the pews.
I know my way around, but my DF is a new convert, so it’s very confusing for him and he gets lost when the course of the service is changed, which happens a lot at one of the parishes we go to. And when he gets lost all the time, it really makes him feel unwelcome there.
We don’t even get psalms on the projector, or if we do they are only visible from a small part of the church, and the rest improvize, especially when they change something.
Like I said, the phone is not my first choice, I’d like to buy a missal or something, but I can’t even find that in our town.

I do all the time, often times I’m texting another catholic for prayer intentions, lol
but ya I text all the time.
On my previous post, I mentioned the fact that life was so much easier before we had all this technology and had someone disagree with me if time about it, which is fine. And yes, there are def. good things about technology, but look at the post I just highlighted above… That comment is a prime example of why I dislike technology. Regardless of any reason, why is someone texting all the time to others while in Mass. Where is the Respect for our Lord. I personally feel that if people could be mature about using technology instead of acting like little kids about it, as the example above demonstrates, and not texting in the car as your driving which many Adults do, than technology wouldnt be so bad. But it isnt that way for the most part, and this texting stuff has been proven to cause so much anxiety especially among young people. If they dont get a text back from one they sent to a friend, they get all woried that that person doesnt like them anymore etc. Life is way to short to deal with that drama. So, yes the cell phone has its advantages depending on the person and situation but by all means, there is no reason why it has to be brought into church. How did we ever get along before this stuff came about! And Yes, I do miss the old days and I know, Im not alone in that.

Our parish readers started including a new announcement before Mass: “Please do not text during Mass.”

Wow.

Would YOU ever text during Mass? Are there legitimate reasons why someone would text during Mass?

I need some perspective here. Thanks!
Holy Mass is the sacrifice of the cross re-presented to us. I don’t think Mary, the mother of Jesus, or Mary Magdelene, or St John would be texting when they were on Calvary watching Jesus dying on the cross for the salvation of the world. We should go to Mass as if we were going to Mt Calvary to behold Jesus dying on the cross for our salvation.

After reading alot of the posts regarding this, I always go back to the same question, which is more of a true statement than anything else, which is: Wasn’t Life so much easier before we had cell phones, texting, facebook, etc. ?!

Seems to me that we are more connected to technology than anything else and it causes more problems for people than good… I sure do miss the old days.
No, it’s not. I’m a quiet person and would rather text a quick message to a friend or whoever than to call.

Facebook has allowed me and probably thousands of others to reconnect with old friends and classmates, not to mention I couldn’t even imagine traveling long distances today without a cell phone. You never know when your car may break down or have a flat tire. I’m a guy and that’s happened to me before and I feel much better having someone come to me who knows how to properly change a tire than to do it myself.

Your comment on this post has been the Best Comment I have seen so far regarding this subject. 🙂

Im not saying technology is bad altogether, but sometimes, alot of times, adults use it as if they are little kids, acting very immature. Regardless of that, the point was, cell phones and texting have no place in mass. We were perfectly able to live a good life before we had this stuff and now it seems it has overtaken us altogether where we have to have it on us at all times… I personally dont want to be available 24/7 to anyone.

Astonishingly enough, I do not even have texting on my phone (a college kid without texting???:rolleyes:), and this is a very good example of why. I always keep my phone on either all sounds off or vibrate, the latter only because I don’t receive calls on my cell phone during church. I think texting in church for something other than an extreme emergency is not appropriate.

No I think texting or making/receiving calls in the church is very disrespectul. I got into the habit of making my adoration as soon as i finish work. So, occasionally, i reach the church and cant remember if the phone is on silent, so i take it out and once it is on silent i put it away until i go outside after my prayer time because that is sacred. God & me alone…

I was at Mass once, it came to commuion time and i was praying in my pew before going to receive. One of the women in the communion line beside my seat, took out her phone and rang husband to say 'Johnny, in line for communion now, put on the chicken be home in 10 minutes"

mass attendance is time for communication with God—those that text there have totally lost the purpose for attending mass and receiving—and need to work on their relationship with God imo

I received an important text once; right before the entrance procession was about to start, Father text me from the back to turn on the lights because he had forgotten to turn them on before he went around to the front.

That example backs my previous posts that I have made on this topic. I honestly think cell phones and texting is the worst thing that has come out because like the woman in your story above, most people, most adults who do text, are very immature with it. They act like little kids. There is no reason why anyone would need to call someone or talk on their phone while in line for communion... I see things like this alot too, and Im so tired of this stuff personally. Im not that old and I can look back at the days when we didnt have this technology to today and I can see how much it has affected people's lives.... sometimes its a good thing but more often its for the worse. To me, if you want to talk to someone, wait till you go home and pick up the phone and talk like a normal person.. enough of this texting, and facebook stuff... goodness.
