Would you let Mormon missionaries pray aloud in your house?

Due to the vast differences in the Catholic vs Mormon understanding of God, I feel unable to say “amen” to any prayers offered aloud by LDS missionaries who visit me.

Now I’m starting to wonder if I should let them pray aloud in my home at all. I pray for our meetings (I’m sure they do too), but they are persistent in wanting to pray aloud with me before we talk.

I feel I have the authority to make the call on prayer in my home, but I have no wish to be inhospitable or unkind. If you are Catholic, would you mind LDS missionaries praying aloud in your home?
 
May I ask sincerely, why have they been visiting you? Sounds like you’re Catholic, and they’ve been over to your house several times . . . ?
 
Good Daughter, I am just wondering - why are you talking with Mormon missionaries? Are you attempting to evangelize them?

Speaking for myself only, if I were to allow Mormons in my house, I would allow them to pray only if they agree to pray with me afterwards.
 
My DH is an atheist (as was I) and he objects to praying out loud, period.

So no, there would be no mormon missionary prayers in my house, but then, their wouldn’t be any mormon missionaries in my house to begin with. We are in agreement on that point.

IN my house! Not a chance, because I would never let them in. Well, unless it was people I know, and then we would be talking about other stuff anyway. 🙂
 
Mormon’s aren’t evil, just mistaken. You don’t have to pray along with them, but I hardly think their prayers are going to infect your home or something.
 
Both extremes, poor housekeeping and touches of interior decorating will generate a response. Best to let them know as little as possible about you. They may even know more about your financial status, ethnicity and family history than you know.
 
Now-a-days, NO, they aren’t coming in to our house. Mormons do not believe in the same GOD. Thus, praying to a foreign GOD is not allowed in my house!

If they showed up at my doorstep, I would tell them I was a Catholic and bid them farewell. On the street, I’d converse with them, letting them know about the TRUE FAITH! 🙂

As long as they are also willing to listen to you pray, sure. But if they are using prayer as a kind of weapon, then you should call them on this. My experience and what I’ve heard others say indicates that Mormon missionaries are trained in quite manipulative methods. You don’t need to get mad at them or kick them out for this, but you should gently and firmly restore a level playing field.

(For instance, some missionaries once asked me if I would become Mormon if I were convinced that God was telling me to do so. I asked them if they would leave Mormonism if they were convinced God was telling them to do so. They of course said that yes, they would, but they were sure that God would tell them no such thing. Since they said it first, it didn’t seem like an evasion or a refusal of complete submission to God’s will when I said the same thing.)

Any prayer to the Eternal seeking truth would be welcome. I have sat with the missionaries on my patio and listened to their prayers and raised mine along with them. They may understand God differently than you…but then…you understand God very differently than I do…and I would welcome your prayers.

That God would not care to hear one of His children call to Him, even though they may have very mistaken ideas about Him is a foreign belief to me…the Light Within calls us to join ourselves with Him in prayer…hold them in the Light as they seek the same for you.

Kindess and patience go a long way at softening hard hearts…it works both ways you know:thumbsup:

I don’t let people I don’t know in my house so no they won’t be leading prayers in my house. The front yard would be ok but that would give warning to my neighbors wouldn’t it.🙂
 
No, as I would be allowing them to waste their time. I wouldn’t want to give the impression that I was interested in becoming a Mormon, which I would do by allowing them in to my house to discuss Mormonism and pray.

I’m with Publisher on this. I don’t get misssionaries, but I have occasion now and again to pray with a family of momrons, a few of whom are good friends. Our pryers are usually over meals so it is that type of asking for God’s blessing over food and companionship. I see nothing at all wrrong with this, but I do make a point to cross myself so that all can see that I join with them as a Catholic. and that I put myreligion out there on the table because I am not ashamed of it.

They’ve been visiting me because I invite them. I think I’m on my eighth pair of missionaries in 18 months. I thought they’d stop sending them at some point but, to be fair, I do tell them up front that I’m a very happy Catholic and really, not much of a prospect for conversion.

The missionaries share about their faith and I share about mine with a passion that, I think, takes them by surprise. I try to make sure that every missionary I encounter cannot deny having met a faithful Catholic who is hospitable (I give them fruit intstead of coffee), cares about how they’re doing and whose morals are probably even more conservative than those of the LDS.

I am attempting to evangelize everyone I meet! Some days go better than others. Mormon missionaries come right to your door, looking to discuss religion. I’m an at home Mom so that kind of convenience is great for me. 😉

To be blunt, as much as I like them, I find Mormon missionaries can be robotic. I feel that overtly Catholic prayer might be jarring to them. I get frustrated when they tell me they “know” things (ie. that the Gospel needed to be restored) and I don’t want to treat them the same way, as I think it’s counterproductive.

Wow ibkc, maybe I’m more interested in evangelizing these missionaries than I even realized. :o
