Would you lie to hide Catholics?

To those that would lie and misdirect (not that there’s a difference), would you hide away homosexuals and lie about them being in your house if they were hiding from brtutilization in the streets (that is, if western society came down on homosexuality and started persecuting them hardcore)?

Belief in a just world (i.e., people get what they deserve; the subscale on which religious people score higher); doesn’t appeal to their political, social, or religious stance so they’re not worthy of being defended. I was browsing some threads before I joined wherein some Catholics had said that homosexuals shouldn’t be able to visit their partners in the hospital because they’re “not actually family,” which is both rediculous and cruel. I’ve known Catholics - some - to be rediculous and cruel. I was just wondering in this instance.

Well - I suspect that you might find a few “cathoics” sprinkled in with the mobs “in the street” in your scenerio. Howver the actions of individuals neither reflect the feelings of all catholics nor do they reflect the teachings of the Church.

The Church teaches that those who have homosexual tendancies are to be treated witl Love and respect. The Catechism has this to say:
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. **They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. **These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

Turning such persons over to a mob would not be in keeping with treating them with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.

Mmh, I’m familiar with the passage. I’m just wondering what believers think, not what they ought to think. It doesn’t take a very big stretch of the imagination to contemplate an argument that “turning someone over to the mob and *neglecting to protect someone whose lifestyle is intrinsically disordered *are two different things.” I’ve seen it written; I was merely asking. You know what some people can be like.

Understood, but you must remember that the call to holiness means overcoming our weaknesses and learning to Live what we “ought” to Live. That is why it is so important to differentiate between Actual teachings and the actual actions of individuals who are, like all of us, sinners.

Just to be clear here though, my decision to protect a homosexual from a mob does not mean that I support the, “lifestyle (which) is intrinsically disordered”. I would just as fervently try to convince this person that, acting on their homosexual tendencies is wrong and sinful.
The Idea of protecting someone from brutality and mob violence, and talking to them about their sinful behavior stems from the same Love. I do not wish to see such a one murdered, for the sake of their soul as well as the souls of the mob. I also do not want to see them killed while living in a state of serious sin for the same reason. My concern, on Godly Love, for the good of their soul.

I would disagree that a religion is “only as good as it is followed”. But as you say that is another discussion. Perhaps time to start a new thread.
