I mean this in either giving the person up/never seeing them again or, to a lesser extent, actually literally - like Abraham and Isaac.

I was just wondering because I’d imagine it would be the biggest test, and I don’t even think I could cut my partner out of my life. But then, I am agnostic so maybe I just dont know God to the extent I would do that.

Do you mean giving them up because they are not a good influence or something along that line?

Yes, possibly, like if they’re into drugs, or making you see certain sins as ok, if they were your homosexual lover (or heterosexual outside of marriage)

But also, if you actually felt that God asked you to give them up - regardless of how moral and good a person they are.

**Lethe,

If they are into a lifestyle that is dragging you down, then you must choose whom you love most.

To offer someone, a la Abraham, has been rendered moot by the death and resurrection of Jesus. The sacrifice God expects of us is one of obedience, and death to self.

The good people in our lives, who help us draw closer to God, have been sent for that purpose. With all of the filth and confusion in the world, hang tight to those whose love is a reflection of the Father’s love for you. :hug3:

God Bless:highprayer::highprayer:**

Would it be the right thing for a Christian to do? Absolutely.

Is it supposed to be a piece of cake? Heck no!

However this is how I see it. Usually when we have to give up things or give up relationships with other people for the sake of God it is really for the best. You never want to keep toxic personalities in your life. Sometimes it may not be so clear whether a person’s personality is “toxic” or not. From what I have observed and experienced in life, sins aren’t just sins because God just wants to make up a bunch of rules. Sins are sins because they really do destroy us, gradually if not immediately. God created us all, he knows exactly how our minds and bodies work.
In the long run, it is possibly a determining factor in whether or not we will be with God in heaven. Some people might be like “well fine i’d rather be in hell with the one i love than be with God without them.”
Hell is supposed to be the complete opposite of all that is good. All the good things you see in this world (love, generosity, compassion, etc) are completely non-existent in Hell. I have suffered a little bit o’ hell in my life and I don’t know about anyone else but I certainly would not like to be miserable for all eternity. Just like I wouldn’t sacrifice my well-being/happiness here on earth for someone else, I wont sacrifice my chances of a peaceful eternity for someone else. A person who really loves you wont ask you to do such a thing.

People do this all the time. Some people stop seeing the person they love as a man or woman because of their religious views or lack of them. I could think of other examples too. However, I would find leaving the person I love most horrible in any situation.

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto.
The highest and best thing you should desire for yourself and for others is Heaven.
