In the 1930’s New York Times Moscow correspondent, Walter Duranty, actually **did **sell out the victims of the Soviet’s premeditated Ukrainian Terror Famine (and other purges) for a Pulitzer Prize and sundry perks from his employers.
The Ukrainian extermination, overseen by Lazar Moiseyevich Kaganovich , is alone thought to have killed between 5 - 10 Million Christian people. In recent years there have been calls for the Pulitzer board to revoke Duranty’s prize. No action has been taken.
Did Newsweek or their reporter act off their own bat in placing such an obviously inflammatory story? Not a chance! Do they or their cohorts care about the extra grief for the soldier on the ground? Probably just enough to make sure their own children never face that situation.
