Many are ardently opposed to abortion for obvious reasons and would support laws that would deem it illegal. Many believe abortion to be tantamount to murder.

That being said…

Would you support government programs that would offer free Health Care to pregnant women and free Pre-natal services to better ensure the healthy delivery of the baby?

Thanks for your responses and all opinions welcome.

Yes, but if pop culture media would promote the Catholic Church’s idea of true, sacrificial love where a man truly loves the woman and wants to raise his progeny instead of running from them, and stop weakening men by peddling the love-less lust of scantily-clad hotties, then we won’t need as many abortions nor exhorbitant budgets for prenatal care.

I would not necessarily support it, if at all. The USA Constitution indicates that the government is to “provide” or “promote” “general Welfare”. At the time of the writing Welfare did not mandate no mean government-owned institutional handouts or any private enterprise. The general Welfare clause has been used to usurp Constitutional and state power and create more centralized government ownership on the false premise that individuals or collections of individuals are unable or unwilling to be charitable.

Note that provide and promote do not mean own.

The government can provide and promote by encouraging charity by providing ideas, tax incentives, extraordinary resources that may not be available any other way and only until the private individuals and charities can provide them.

In the cited example, individual or privately organized charity can be collected to provide the needed heath care should the woman be unable to afford it. Abortion is not heath care by any perception.

Charity is a virtue, a gift from God, not a tax. Each person is called to be charitable. Tax payers render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s. However we are all called by God to be personally charitable because then we render unto God that which is God’s. (see Matthew 22:21)

You realize that this already exists right? It is called medicaid. (Sometimes different things in different states, such as MediCal etc.) If you are pregnant you don’t need to be as poor to qualify for medicaid, than a non pregnant person. This covers everything, like pre-natal visits, tests, perscriptions, and the birth. (And the baby is placed on medicaid for one year after birth, which covers, well child check ups, shots, perscriptions, etc.) You don’t see people protesting the existence of these programs, if anything you see people asking for better administration of these programs, and to get rid of the fraud.

There is also WIC (Women, infant, and children) Their standard are even looser than medicaid. Pregnant women and children under 5 under a certain income. You get checks that help you buy healthy foods, like milk, bread, cheese, eggs, beans, juice, peanut butter, fruits, and vegitables. This helps support a food budget.

Just saying these programs already exist and are widely supported.
