Would you take 1 year old to Busch Gardens?

We don’t have any family here and only a couple of friends. It’s DS’s first birthday and we’re thinking of taking him to Busch Gardens. I’m not sure if he’s too little to enjoy it. If you have been there, would you think it’s worthwhile to take a little one?

Hi nicole…I have been there, and I think 1 is a bit young to fully enjoy the rides, etc. Unlike Disney, where kids can look at the various characters, BG has a lot more adult themed rides and adventures. I don’t think you can’t take him…but Chuck E Cheese, he might enjoy more. 😛 Just my two cents. I also think 1 yr old is too young to fully enjoy Disney, too…but I was there recently, and we saw young young children in strollers everywhere…so… I mean, if it’s for his birthday, I’m not sure he’ll really enjoy things as much as say Chuck E Cheese, or the park even.

If you decide to go, have fun!!

No, ya gonna make him miserable and y’all miserable.

I’ve been to Busch Gardens, when my son was 9. We use to laugh at the parents with young kids, trying to see stuff. The kids were cranky, tired, and had no clue what was going on. And they are NOT gonna let y’all on any of the good rides.

My :twocents:

**Personally I think 1 year olds (and even older toddlers) like simplicity. (depending on personality of course). Lily was happy to have some cake, lol. And ripping paper off the presents is always a big hit.

I’m not saying NOT to take him, just that you don’t need to in order to make his birthday fun for him. Some fun decorations, a cake, and people who love him singing happy birthday would be all that is required for a fun b-day.

I’d save the “outings” for when he is old enough to ask for and look forward to them…but of course that’s just me (a homebody, lol).**

I think he’d like the beach or a park alot more.

I LOVE Busch Gardens … have been there lots of times, and if you and hubby want to go I think you should - but not for the little guy. He wouldn’t get a thing out of it IMO.

Don’t make him miserable and you two in the process. There are other things he’d like better. With a 1 yr. old, simpler is better.

He won’t remember it; I try to do things that will be memorable for birthdays. For the first birthday, your money would be better spent on a lot of cake for him to go crazy with.

I voted no - wait till he’s at least 5 (at least).

If I had to do it all again, I’d be skipping the expensive birthday gifts as well. My darling daughter (now 5) got all sorts of fancy gifts for her first few birthdays. What did she enjoy playing with the most?

A rock and two sticks from the backyard (while the presents sit on a shelf somewhere). Go figure.

No…Busch Gardens will be too much for a 1year old and everyone else too. I would opt for a park picnic with some new toys. and cupcakes! 😃

Okay, you convinced me! It’s just kinda depressing being here by ourselves. Mom wanted to get out and do something more than anyone else. 🙂

Maybe we’ll go to the beach. It’s too cold for us locals to swim (it’s like Lake Michigan in there!) but the sound of the waves is always relaxing.

not if I have to pay for him and me just to walk around, wish these places had a grandparent-and-baby-in-stroller-rate for us tag-alongs

if you can afford it and there are others in the family who would enjoy it, go by all means, but make sure you have what you need to keep him amused, and bear in mind if he gets fractious the trip may be cut short and you will lose your investment. we used to have season passes for Sea World, when it was in our town, which was great because you could go in the evening and just stroll, and enjoy fireworks on the weekend.

go on line to the tourist site for your city or state and look for free kid-friendly attractions, or just go to McDonalds playland
