There’s a poll on this already in this forum. Have you compared it with what you’re trying to find out?

No thank you! Dancers would be too distracting and Mass is just fine as it is, as it has been forever!

Maybe if I belonged to a culture where dance is used as a means of expression… and since I’m not part of a culture like that, forget it. An SSPX friend of mine recently said that the presence of liturgical dancers just confirms his suspicions that Satan’s trying to turn the Mass into a giant nightclub, complete with a spiritual bartender, band, and dance floor. I’m almost inclined to agree. I can deal with Masses not said Ad Orientem (or even facing liturgical east, for crying out loud!), and I can deal with lousy music. But dancing? Hm… maybe if we told people there’s dancing at Mass they’d dress up… lol… Nah.

A couple friends and I were talking, outside of Mass, about this very topic and the question came up about liturgical dance when chanting the Mass parts in Latin. To cut a long story short my friend, the most rigid guy you could ever meet, ran and grabbed a bowl and pretended to dance with it chanting in Latin. Needless to say it was hilarious, but definately not worthy of Mass. With that in mind, I hope that I never encounter a liturgical dancer at my parish.

" My house shall be called a house of prayer…" Matt: 21:13

No! No! No! No! No! and again, NO!!! :nope: :tsktsk:

If I wanted to see dancing I’d go to the ballet.

With all the respect I can muster for those cultures who use dance as a prayerful expression, I’ve gotta say they have no business whatsoever in American parishes.

Re the OP:

Er… NO!

We had liturgical dancers at the service for the confirmandi two years ago here in ABQ, and there was considerable backlash/commentary. After the service, in the parish hall, I mentioned to our archbishop that I was a bit surprpised, to say the least(even as a new convert). His answer to me was succinct: “NEVER AGAIN!!” 👍

Ya gotta love this guy!

Yes, they’re asking “Do you have liturgical dancers”, and “by the way, no negative comments please”. Not quite the same question. I am trying to find out something that that poll is trying to avoid, that is : “Would you want Liiturgical Dancers?”

What sort of dances—The Bump? The Black Bottom? The Jittterbug? The Tango? Maybe a Mosh Pit Mash?

I think not. I’m sure when David danced before the Ark he was like Fred Astaire and no one after him could come close, so there’s no point in even trying. Leave all that to the Pentecostals.

Anyway, I get distracted enough during Mass when some old man coughs loudly while the Priest is speaking or if a baby starts screaming bloody murder and the parent doesn’t have the consideration to take him outside, so no, dancing wouldn’t help at all.

I admit I have never, ever heard of Liturgical Dancers before.

On the other hand, if we could get the June Taylor Dancers from the old “Jackie Gleason Show” to come make patterns on the floor…

Liturgical Dancers can be a very beuatiful and moving addition to a Mass or prayer service if done within guidelines, it is a shame that we don’t have that now.

I voted no.

Holy Mass isn’t the Love Train, in which we would do a conga line to the altar.

Picture it. Live from the Vatican. Midnight Mass.

“And now, ladies and gentlemen, Catholics and non-Catholics, at the presentation of the gifts…
The St. Peter’s Basilica Solid Gold DANCERS!!”

:tsktsk: I have yet to see or hear of any benefit in this. Maybe if you live in Africa or some other country that it is a part of their liturgy. But in America NO THANKS!!!
