We may enjoy a few moments of humor watching Mr. Beck interview this impostor, but I assure you that he and his followers are deadly serious. I lived for fifteen years in Central America, where sadly many have fallen away from our Faith through faulty or incomplete catechization and bombardment with confusing and conflicting ideas by the mass media, thus becoming easy prey to Jehovah’s Witnesses, Adventists, Scientologists and other dangerous frauds like this charlatan Miranda. Last year he attempted to visit Honduras and Nicaragua but was refused entry first by immigration officials and eventually by presidential directive. (Unfortunately, he is a Puerto Rican and therefore a US citizen, or we could do the same!) His followers demonstrated in major cities in both countries, and I was horrified to see that they were quite numerous.
I guess my point in all this is that we need to be aware that these people and groups represent a serious threat to the salvation of millions, and that we should donate generously at our churches when they collect funds for missionary and evangelization efforts in those countries, particularly in Mexico and Central America, where our Faith is under serious attack.
