Is an AWESOME movie!!!

Question tho… was that only book 1 of the Chronicles? ( I hope ) I hope there are more movies… man… that was a good movie. One of the rare movies I don’t want to end. 🙂
 
That was the first book in the series written, however chronologically speaking, “The Magician’s Nephew” takes place before “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”

The next movie they’ll make is “Prince Caspian,” although that’s not the next one chronologically.
 
I just saw this recently too. I could not agree more. What an incredible movie. I look forward to the next one.
 
It has fabulous production value. But, I was not impressed with the story line.
 
Like all movies based on books, it tinkers with all sorts of things. (In the book, Lucy and Susan do NOT fight. But this would not sit well with the PC crowd of today).

Still, for those who prefer visual and oral stimuli (movies, TV) as opposed to books, this movie should be far preferable to many if not most contemporary works from the media, IMO.
 
I read the books when I was a little kid… makes me want to go out and buy them.

I think there was a press info, but I’m not sure. Logically, it makes sense to make Prince Caspian next if they want to use the same kids for the actors. Prince Caspian is the next one where the kids are practically the same age.

“A Horse and His Boy” takes place after “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”, but it actually takes place before they leave Narnia to return to the real world. Therefore their characters in that one are adults.

The story of someone giving his own life for the sake of the kingdom is not a good story line???

Which Gospel did you read at Palm Sunday Mass?

It is a wonderful movie. I bought it and have watched it twice. I had only three (bigger) problems with it:

I was quite annoyed with Susan’s Character. She was not bossy or a know-it-all in the books (until later, that is).

I was also a little disappointed with the White Witch. According to “The Magician’s Nephew,” Jadis is supposed to be dazzlingly beautiful. I thought she just looked creepy.

Finally, as I mentioned in the other thread, I was disappointed with Aslan. To me, he seemed like just a lion. However, in the books, he is so much more. Any thoughts on these?
 
Can someone please tell me exactly in what chronological order I should read the Chronicles of Narnia? I bought the set and would like to start reading them, I just don’t know what order I’m supposed to read them in…thanks for your help;).
 
If you want to read them in the order of when things happened in Narnia it is:
Magicians Nephew
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
A Horse and His Boy (Actually happens during LWW)
Prince Caspian
Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Silver Chair
Last Battle

Or you can read them in the order in which they were written:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Silver Chair
The Horse and His Boy
The Magician’s Nephew
The Last Battle

I prefer the order in which they were written, but either way they are good! 😃
 
I agree that the order of writing is better (in all fairness I should say that I’m going against Lewis himself on this–but I don’t think Lewis took his own work seriously enough to give much thought to the issue). Horse and His Boy and Magician’s Nephew obviously come from a period when Lewis’s concept of Narnia was much more developed–Nephew in particular screams “prequel.” I would think that reading Wardrobe after Nephew would be really jarring, because in Wardrobe Lewis himself is obviously just discovering Narnia, and there are all sorts of loose ends. I think that reading Wardrobe first is magical, and you lose that magic if you read it as volume 2 in an ongoing saga.

The thing to bear in mind either way (Lewis pointed this out in the letter where he endorsed the “chronological” reading order) is that Lewis didn’t have a plan of the novels in mind from the start. In fact, he professed uncertainty as to whether the writing order was quite the same as the publication order, though I think the only novel for which that’s relevant is Horse and His Boy. In my opinion, the haphazard nature of the series makes reading the books in writing order more important, because you see them develop.

Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales are similar. Last of the Mohicans was written before Deerslayer but is set at a later point in the hero’s life. Deerslayer is the last novel written but the first one chronologically. Start with it, and you will read all the other novels with a conception of the main character radically at odds with the one Cooper had in mind when he wrote the books (you can see him idealizing the character more and more as the books progress, to the point where Deerslayer reads like a case for the hero’s canonization).

Another example–I’ve been watching the Babylon V series via Netflix. I mistakenly ordered the DVD of the prequel movie “In the Beginning” pretty early on. I should have known better. The movie was made during the fourth season, I think, and it has all sorts of references to things that you learn later on in the series.

For some series it may not matter that much, but generally the writing order is more fun, because you get to travel along with the author as he or she creates/discovers this whole new world.
