Writing in your bible (Merged)

2 things:
  1. As long as your purpose is sound in highlighting the bible, I don’t see any problem (as long as it’s your copy and not a copy checked out from the parish library). 🙂
  2. Keep highlighter & bible away from 2 year olds (either separately or together, ESPECIALLY if it’s a copy checked out from the parish library). Just sayin’. 😉 😃

I was just curious as to methods different people use to write in their bible. What system or methods do you use to write notes, put tabs, make annotations, etc. in your bible? I know some people just start writing whenever/ whatever the mood strikes while others have very precise highlighting, tab, and notation systems. I just wanted to kinda survey what others are doing.
Also, do you write in your main reading bible? Do you have a designated “notes” bible? Etc.

I don’t do much of any marking anymore, but I use to. I would underline passages, write in the front or back of all the passages that I wanted to remember or quickly make reference to for various reasons such as apologetic stuff. I would sometimes quote a saint’s comments by passages as sort of a footnote.

My study techniques have changed over the years and I just don’t benefit from the same techniques.
 
I have a few bibles, NASB study, NAB study etc. I jot down biblical references on a notebook or piece of paper. Other times I’ll print a commentary from a web site related to a bible passage. I haven’t written anything on my bibles.
 
I used to write in my Bible all the time as a Protestant. Most of the time it was to refute Catholicism 😃 But now I have one Bible that I write a lot in that I write a bunch of Catholic Apologetics in to use as a handy tool.

Every now and then I will underline in like pencil or pen some verses I want to remember if I come upon the passage again but other than that I don’t as much as I used to.

I only underline - pen and ruler.
If I want to write something, I stick a piece of paper in the back cover and write all over that.

But seriously, I should own stock int the Post-It company, though. 😃

If it is a paperback, however, I’d consider it, but even then, I’d probably go to the leather one and post-it instead. (Easier to read, too. )
 
I usually write out a passage I find meaningful into my meditation book.
 
I am reading the bible all the way through for the first time with my 14 year old daughter. I bought a few pens in different colors so I could underline things that strike me.

All the best heather. I tried reading the whole bible, but I just couldn’t get through chronicles. I decided to by parts of the Old Testament navarre edition and am enjoying it. I can also highly recommend the extended New Testament version.
