Hello everyone,
I found this at a website.
The canon of scripture was in existence before the (Catholic) church, the old testament called the tanahk was given to us by the jews. In 270 A.D., Eusibius in his writings mentions all the books of the new testament. The catholic church held its council in 390 at hippo. So for the first 200 years, the early believers were under persecution and already had the scriptures this is historical fact as the earliest catalog of the new testament was in 170 A.D. long before the roman catholic church existed.

Can someone refute this please? It is just plain crazy to thing that the new Testament existed before the Catholic Church.:rolleyes:

Funny how he didn’t mention that Eusibius was a Bishop? A Bishop of the Catholic Church that didn’t exist yet, Ha Ha.😃

There was not a unified canon. Not everyone subscribed to the same one Eusebius mentioned. Some included the Epistle of Barnabas or the Epistle of Clement, for example.

Anyway, Catholics don’t believe councils invent truth–they confirm what is true when there arises a dispute. So of course many people would have held to the truth before those councils.

The Catholic CHurch existed since Pentecost. I don’t understand what you mean here.

They were trying to say that the scriptures ***existed ***before the Catholic Church.:whacky:

That’s like saying the egg came before the chicken.
It’s a poor example but it’s the first one out of my head.😊

The Church came first because the entire New Testament was written by the first Catholics.
