i have had a hard life, im pretty young at 27 and pretty much live my life thinking im going to hell.

a post in this forum pretty much brought this up, but i wondered if its wrong to beg for purgatory to get into heaven…half the time i repeat what i do wrong and i know what i do is wrong, i just want the chance to be happy.

half the time i pray to my father more then jesus, i dont mean to i just do…sigh

I guess my real question is, does god know your not a good person and gives you the chance to go to heaven?

I worked in law enforcement as a young man (security) hoping to be a police officer, in my job i have seen alot working in a mall, and one thing on my mind has always kept with me, about five years ago a drunk homeless man was causing a scene and i kicked him out of the mall during a snow storm (its downtown toronto with 4 million poeple) he cursed my name and left, half a day later i went home from my shift and turned on the news and they reported they had found the body of that person frozen to death near the mall in a parking stairway, after talking with police and security they told me it wasn’t my fault and i was doing my job…but…i directly sent a man to his death without thinking about it…

since then i seen other things, poor people kill themselves, other stuff that effects me. i dont want to be a police officer anymore but wondered if god forgives…i ask for forgiveness but its like dirt that doesnt wash off, i never feel like im really sorry or i mean it enough. i ask for forgiveness but its like dirt that wont wash off…i dont know how to describe it, people say just ask for forgiveness but it doesnt help…does that mean i dont mean it…sometimes thats why i wish for purgatory rather then heaven, if i dont believe myself how can god?

God’s arms are open wide to ALL of us. When you ask for forgiveness, you also need to accept it. Perhaps you’re not good at receiveing? Perhaps you need to forgive yourself! If God can do it, so can you. I know you’re thinking, “I don’t deserve it.” Well, none of us does, but that doesn’t stop God. He is amazingly merciful. He calls us to forgive each other too. That’s how we find peace, and joy in God. So start today. Forgive your self. Each day we start over! Learn from yesterday, but leave the baggage behind! Look forward to your future!

ALWAYS REMEMBER: God will NEVER leave you. Even if you leave Him, He’ll always be there ready to help. If I were you, I would go to your priest and ask for some guidance.

By the way, I’m Polish too. : )

We chose where we end. God loves us unconditionally and is always ready to forgive a penitent soul, as well as to grant enough grace to allow us to achieve salvation. In fact, God can sanctify us in an instant.

It is written: “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. If you seek the Kingdom of God as your treasure, considering all things of this life as means towards that one end, then your heart will be in heaven from this very day, until the blessed day in which your soul will be there also.

Your question reveals a very simple truth: you are holding the hand of Jesus and have never let go. I do not know whether sanctifying grace abides in you, but your words transpire of that balm that can find its origin only in the Holy Spirit.

Your humbleness is inspiring and edifying. What is purgatory, if not a stage of purification before entering the beatific vision of heaven? Prayer for admission in Purgatory isn’t perhaps prayer for admission in Heaven covered with the precious mantle of humbleness? For just as when we sin, our mind longs for Confession and only then for the Eucharist, so it is very proper that in this life we long for the purification and reconciliation that precedes admission into the heavenly Supper of the Lamb!

Brother, I myself always pray intensely to be admitted to purgatory…how could I ever hope to reach heaven? Such is the place for the saints who have served the Lord magnificently. But one fact stands as pristine and truthful as a beam of light in the darkness: it has never been seen since the creation of the world that a soul that loves God ends in hell, for the very love will move the soul to repentance and salvation. Love is a bond that unites us in an unbreakable unity with God: for the Holy Spirit is Love.

Happiness is not of this world. If you seek worldly things, you will never be at peace, for our imperfections lead us into a vicious circle of more and more cravings, but our immortal soul longs for true satisfaction, which is the infinite love that only the Almighty God and Creator of all things can fulfill. That is the true happiness! This life is so short, and worldly joys are so vain…seek the Kingdom of God, and all things will be given to you in addition. You will find true peace, which is peace amidst tribulation, and you will experience the joy of giving up self in service of others and for the sake of your immortal soul. You will come to realize why Christ told us that the struggle to “be perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect” is in truth “a burden that is light”.

You pray to your father, but why be sorry? Who are we to approach God Almighty directly? Timeless truth is that nobody can see God and live, and that “if He were to speak to us, we may die”. That is why Christ came to us in the flesh, to bring us to the knowledge of the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit. But then, who is worthy to approach the immaculate Lamb? Did not the Forerunner, the greatest among all prophets according to Christ Himself, say that he was not even worthy to loose the latchet of His sandals? Is that not why we fervently request the intercession of the saints, just like St. Peter asked that of St. John? Is it that not why we fervently send up our sighs to our mother, the Blessed Virgin, just like the humble servants? Is it that not why St. Louis de Montfort revealed to us that the true devotion to Our Lady is also rooted in acknowledging that we need a mediator for the Mediator Himself, and that Our Lady is the most capable for this charitable office, for as Christ came to us through her, we ought to go to Christ through her?

Worthy and humble is then your prayer, because you are well-aware that God Almighty listens to you carefully and even knows what you need before you speak, and yet you do not dare to speak to such great a Majesty, but instead humbly request the intercession of your father. And how much do you resemble our beloved Christ in this!

Dear brother, I am so sorry to read the sad story that has taken place. Such are the things of this world, of this life that is not the true life. Do not be deeply disturbed, for the Lord God knows our intentions, and justifies us when we act out of obedience to our superiors. If negative things arise from that obedience, trust in the living God who out of darkness created light and out of death brought forth eternal life.

You wonder if God forgives? Look at the Crucified Christ, for a minute. Look at His eyes, He who, being God, had no need of us creatures, of us rebels, and chose instead to come down, look like us so that we could relate to Him more easily, chose to take on Himself the full burden of our disobedience unto death, and after a most sorrowful passion, with a crown of thorns, nailed to a cross, with His beloved mother kneeling broken-hearted before Him, Christ Jesus looked up to the heavens and said:

“Forgive them, Father!”

Tell me, brother: does God forgive?

This is my exhortation: go to confession as soon as possible. Speak calmly to the priest, remembering that he acts in persona Christi, meaning that it is to Jesus Himself you are confessing. Talk to Jesus openly, like a child would do, and stop injuring yourself by not forgiving yourself. If we are commanded by Christ to forgive our brothers, how could we if we don’t first forgive ourselves? If we don’t want to do this out of self-love, we have to do it out of obedience to God! For self-love is not sinful inasmuch as Christ told us to “love our neighbor as we love ourselves”. Love, then, yourself as much as necessary for your own salvation, for no matter what, your immortal soul is in God’s image and likeness, and Christ loves you so much that if you could find out you could die of joy.

Forgive yourself through an act of will, talk to the priest soon in confession, do your penance, and then receive the Holy Eucharist. I assure you that God Himself will take your soul and cleans it as if you had just received Baptism as an infant, and you will be alive again, alive in Christ.

If God allows me, as I hope, to receive Him tomorrow in the Holy Eucharist and offer my poor self to Him, I will keep you in my heart. But in return, brother, I ask you to take the step towards Christ. Do not be like him who was lost not because of his betrayal but because he distrusted in God’s forgiveness…be instead like Peter, who denied Christ before His very eyes, but with a contrite heart jumped off a boat, ran to Him, and begged for His forgiveness, receiving it along with the fullness of His love.

I will see you soon, mystically speaking, in the Holy Eucharist, if it be God’s will. This I ask through the intercession of Our Lady, and of your father.

When I was young I was a police officer. We were in a coffee shop and there was a homeless guy sitting at the counter with a pint of whiskey sticking out of his back pocket. It was raining like crazy and the waitress just nodded at him and I told him he’d have to leave or at least leave the liquor outside. he left.

We sat down for dinner break and got called about ten minutes later to an accident on the highway right by where we were eating. A pedestrian had tried to cross the highway in the dark and the rain on foot and gotten hit and instantly killed. I never saw his body, but I found the label from the pint on the ground, still stuck to what was left of the bottle smashed in the crash.

What would you tell me? God called me to the Church years later. This is what I know: if we pray for them it does tremendous good for them. And I think I know how much you need to go to confession. As much as I did.

Pray for my guy and I’ll pray for yours.

Here is what we can both learn: that every act counts. That we don’t know what casual thoughtlessness or what simple kindness might have a huge impact on another’s life. I want you to start thinking of your knowing what the result was as a blessing, as something that helps you become closer to God. I want you to know how much God loves you. At least as much as he loves me and that turned out to be a whole lot and, darlin,’ NO ONE deserves it.

ahhhhh! My dear friend truth is most of us are destined to go purgatory (WE HOPE) if we get in purgatory our salvation (HEAVEN) is assured.
Trust in Jesus, pray the rosary ask for strenght for overcoming your weaknesses (we all have ours) and take advantage of the sacrament of reconciliation.

Agreed! I couldn’t have said it any better. 🙂

The simple thing here to know is that God is a “forgiving God”. . .you have to ask with a sincere heart, and you’ll be forgiven. Have you been to confession? If not (assuming you are Catholic), I would highly recommend it. I have found nothing more that brings me peace.
