I have been watching these documentaries on these two wars over the last 10 days.
My great uncle was a WWI veteran and my dad and uncles were WWII veterans.
So many things made an impression on me watching these documentaries. The courage of the soldiers was one thing. Everything they had to endure on the battlefield,
from danger to dysentery to freezing cold weather. I don’t know how they did it.
Then, of course, the citizens whose countries were invaded and they endured hardships and starvation and thousands of civilians killed.

The worst scenes are from the concentration camps. I watched a documentary on Treblinka last night. 850,000 Jews were killed there in a year’s time! No matter how many images I see of the atrocities of WWII, the horror never decreases. How could human beings do to other human beings what was done during WWII?
One Jewish man asked himself if God was on holiday. He said he stopped believing.

I still cannot believe these horrors happened in the 20th century. I was born 7 years after the end of WWII and I realize now how even though the war was over we always lived in the shadows of those great wars.

We should never forget those wars, the brave soldiers, the human lives lost. I pray we never have a WWIII.

I recommend watching these documentaries to see the sacrifices earlier generations made around the world.

A lot of these are also available on YouTube. Just search on a keyterm like “Holocaust” or “Auschwitz” and see what pops up.

Could you post the titles for those who do not have Netflix? Thank you.
Here are some of the titles:

The First World War from Above
Churchill’s First World War
Winston Churchill - Walking with Destiny

Prelude to War
Know Your Enemy - Japan
Galipolli
Battle of Britain-The Real Story
Nazi Concentration Camps
Treblinka: Hitler’s Killing Machine (Told by two survivors)
Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads
Hitler’s Secret Attack on America
The Hindenburg - The Real Story

There might have been a few more, but they are not showing up
today.

Yes Germany gained a lot of ground in Russia. I did not realize how much.
Russia finally defeated Germany and was instrumental in defeating Hitler once they reached Berlin. Russia saw many of the horrors at the hands of Germany. The siege of Leningrad (today it is St. Petersburg) was especially terrible. Around one million
citizens died in the 872 day siege.

It amazes me how Germany and the small island of Japan had armies that were able to invade and conquer so many countries in such a short time. It truly was a World War.
The Balkan countries fell rapidly also. So much death and destruction everywhere.

I also am interested in anything re WWI and II Reading historical novels on this topic is my passion.Especially re the Natzi invasions and the atrocities that were done to the Jewish population as a result. There is a new movie released called The Zoo Keepers Wife.I read the book several years ago.It is based on a true story of a Christian couple in charge of maintaining a zoo with specialty animals, for the Natzie’s They harbor Jewish families within the zoo.A compelling story.I would like to see the movie as well

I used to watch things like that but it’s sometimes hard to sort the propaganda from the truth, so I don’t bother with them but I do know that the world has never recovered from WW1 and WW2.

I’ll say the saddest thing to me is the death of Christianity being such a strong force in Europe. I mean most European soldiers were Christian, weather it was German Lutherans or British Anglican, all these European brothers fought each other and must have asked themselves, where was God in all the horrors they saw?
Another thing to mention is that this was the best of men, and their bloodlines lost forever. I mean these were men who died for their country, not the type that could weasel out of it, but noble men that fought for their country, their family and their children.

WW1 essentially saw the removal of God’s chosen rulers, the Monarchies and the rise of the Jewish international bankers which all nations are in debt to today, except for Iran, Syria and soon to be Russia if I read correctly, but this could be the start of WW3, those who don’t play ball with the globalists like Adolf Hitler, it never ends well for them…
Speaking of Hitler though, after WW1 we saw the rise in two dangerous ideologies. Communism and National Socialism. Communism/Marxism was the one that would triumph and we see Communism rampant today, it has survived from the Bolshevik era, we see socialism everywhere now, as seen in the dominant left-wing who control the corporations, media and schools and I feel sad about this, it’s a dangerous ideology. Communism has one God, and its name is Equality. Marxists divide people by colour, race, sexuality and decide which ones are more important with some system of oppression points. You saw the same kind of thing in the gulags, where people were sorted in different ways. The same thing happens now, and anyone who opposes this kind of thing is called a fascist or a Nazi.

Now there’s one thing I saw of most importance recently, that Trump was meant to be the chosen one, the outsider who would not continue the American foreign policy of destroying other nations which do not want to be part of this international banking system and debt slavery, places like Libya, Syria, etc. He was voted in because he was to stand up to the evil people who wishes for the destruction of the Middle-East and the West.
His U-Turn shows that even he has no power, only they do, the one that benefited most from all these wars. Those who deal in finance and putting nations in their debt. The international banks. So many people died and I don’t for the life of me, believe they died for them.

I just watched another one this morning called Hiroshima - The Real Story. It was very good. I have seen many programs about the bomb, but this is one of the best.
One thing it brought out was that it was a 5 hour flight from Tinian Island to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and both times Japanese military intelligence realized that enemy aircraft were coming their way and the information was sent to officers, but no orders given to try to shoot down the plane or in the morning no sirens went off warning people to go to shelters.
The Americans afterwards built research centers to study the victims of the bomb and
radiation rather tan treat them. We almost treated them like guinea pigs.

I really don’t see the point of the second bomb dropped and hope a nuclear bomb will never be dropped again.

The American military tried to keep it secret as far as the aftermath - the devastation and deaths and injuries, etc. No reporters were allowed until somehow a reporter from
Australia got in and broke the story.

I have seen the previews for The Zookeeper’s Wife. It looks very good. Do you recommend the book?

I think of how Christian Europe was at that time too, but then I get depressed at the thought of all the murders, rapes and other atrocities committed by Christian soldiers.

War turned men into monsters.

Some of the documentaries I watched were produced by the State Department and
directed by Frank Capra (it’s a Wonderful Life) and John Ford.

Another good one was the War in Russia about Russia and WWII.

Currently I am watching The Great War on American Experience. I am wondering how
Lenin negotiated an end of the war with Germany early. That facilitated more German
soldiers moving to the Western Front. This was WWI.
America was only in WWI one year seven months.

You can currently watch America Experience: The Great War on PBS. I saw the first episode and recorded the second. It is exceptionally well done, with film from 100 years ago… fascinating.

I was struck by the deep faith, intelligence, eloquence and deliberation of Pres. Woodrow Wilson, particularly his speech at the beginning of the United States’ entrance into WWI. Wish we had someone of his stature now in these very troubled times.

He actually was not a good president, but I am finding the program worth watching.
I had a great uncle who was a stable sergeant in WWI. I have his dog tags.
I knew African Americans had a big part in WWII but I did not realize the great number who served in WWI. There were many immigrants fighting in WWI and 1 in 3 Americans at that time were immigrants. Of course it shows the role women played too.
Perhaps if we had entered the war earlier, the war might have ended earlier. The flu
pandemic actually had a lot to do with the war ending when it did.

I am glad to see the veterans of both wars honored. Speaking for myself as a woman, when I see the footage from both wars I ask myself where did they get the courage to
fight. I know there are women in the military today, but I don’t know if they can fight on
the front lines or not. In Israel I believe both men an women are required to serve.
Where would any of us be if it were not for the brave sacrifices of the soldiers.

She must have had lot of courage. If they were caught by the Germans I am sure their
death was not pleasant. I wish they would make a documentary about these female
snipers.

I suppose whether he was a good president or not depends upon one’s view; I’ve seen plenty of arguments both pro and con. I’ve not studied him in depth, but know that he had principles and stuck to them - for both good and bad.

My grandfather served in WWI, as well; one of my favorite photos of him showed him in his “doughboy” uniform in 1918. He never talked much about it… I’m sure it was a miserable experience.
