I hear Yanny! That is what I was thinking was partly the cause for the different noises heard, different computers or different computer settings would have the noise sounding different.

Then again I laughed when I saw Charles Barkley said he heard “donut”.

The NYT has a slider where you can change the frequency to make it go from Laurel to Yanny. I used the slider on my iPhone and it did change when I slid it towards Yanny, although instead of “Yanny” it sounded more like “Yee-arry”. When I did the same thing on my laptop, it stayed “Laurel” until I got almost to the end of the slider toward “Yee-arry”. This isn’t my “perception”, it’s the speakers on my devices.
I am LOVING the science in all of this! ❤️

My son hears yanny as well. When I told him about being able to hear laurel after his concert, he said, “Yeah, [that kid] hasn’t learned how to play the drums quietly yet.” 😂

Here’s the link to the NYT slider. Looks like they’re doing a bit of research themselves. 😃

I hear Yanny and I’m way over the age where they say people tend to hear Yanny if they are younger.

My daughter heard Yanny eventually. Her friend played it for her over the phone, and she then heard Laurel.

So I thought, let me try over the phone. I sent my son to the opposite end of the house. He called my cell phone, and played the recording.

I didn’t hear Laurel. I heard exorcist version of yanny. 😳😳 very low and raspy. I had such s laugh.

It depends on who’s doing the story. I heard Yanny the first time, Laurel the second and the next day, both at the same time.

I heard an interview on the radio yesterday with the man who actually recorded the word for an English vocabulary website. He said laurel.

THANK YOU!!! Laurel is what i heard too.
Now i can leave this thread!

It says Laurel. Those who hear otherwise are clearly disturbed individuals and should probably be institutionalized and kept locked away from decent society.

The man who actually recorded it for the website says he said “Laurel” and demonstrated it. But when they played the recording leading into the interview, I heard “Yaurel.”

Oh, and “Laurel” was only one of many words he recorded for that vocabulary website. But it was the only word that got this kind of response.
