I have a question. I keep reading about the year of mercy and hearing about the great doors being opened. I tried doing a bit of online research, but kept getting stuck in a loop.
  1. What exactly are these great doors? (I mean why were they put up in the first place)
  2. Why were they sealed off, what is behind them?
  3. Do they get resealed again, and why would they do that?

Here is a Vatican link to some information regarding the Holy Doors:

vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/documents/ns_lit_doc_14121999_porta-santa_en.html

w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/letters/2015/documents/papa-francesco_20150901_lettera-indulgenza-giubileo-misericordia.html

Hope this helps.

Here’s a little more information regarding doors from my research.

Doors are in place/sealed to act as shield between God and sin.

Doors are opened to let God’s mercy flow through to all.

Doors are only opened in jubilee years. Last opening was in 2000.

I’m afraid I’m oversimplifying this…
