Dear all;

It is looking like I won’t be able to get to Confession before mass on Easter Sunday.

I have not been able to go to mass for some time, and following some profound experiences during Lent (this has been my biggest and best Lenten journey to date), I am extremely saddened that I may not be worthy to receive communion due to mortal sin.

I am trying daily to make a perfect act of contrition, and my soul is more sorrowful daily as I come into greater communion with our Lord daily. Today I prayed the rosary, and our Lord’s anguish in the Garden touched me so profoundly that I was in tears; and so sorry for having ever offended God.

I know the Church requires confession, even if a Perfect Act is made- in order to remove any doubt as to the removal of mortal sin.

Under my circumstances, might it still be acceptable for me to receive communion?

It saddens me that others may attend mass this Sunday for the first time this year and will receive communion anyway.

Perhaps you can make a brief appointment with your priest tomorrow.

If not, then wait till the week after Easter.

Is there no way for Your pastor to hear your confession? Could he spare You 10 minutes of his time? Is there a nearby parish that You could drive to, or ask a ride to?

Pray God grants you the opportunity to see a Priest. As long as there is a Priest, it does not matter where you are. Shoot I have had confession in a car! Also on a sidewalk and also on a basketball court haha gotta love being Catholic 🙂 But yes if God sees your yearning to receive Him and your efforts to find a Priest I am so sure He will provide one! 🙂 God bless you 🙂

If you are in the state of mortal sin, you must not receive Communion until you have been to confession and have received absolution from the priest. Call your parish office and ask if there is a priest available to hear your confession before Sunday. Most parishes in my diocese have a retired priest or two who are available for confession outside the regular hours. Call around to other parishes if no one can help you at yours. It is not too late, but you should do it right away.

Really struggling here- I can’t get to the scheduled Sat AM confessions and I have tried parishes all over locally and I can’t get an appointment this week.

I am trying in earnest. I’d appreciate any clarification on the state of one’s soul before communion; i.e. I do ‘feel’ following a very profound experience, that I have been forgiven in my act of contrition which I do, firmly, believe to have been valid.

Also I just drove across town to try to make a pre-mass confession 30 mins but arrived there too late thanks to traffic. A 15 minute journey took nearly 40 mins. So I am trying! 🤷 🙂

I managed to get an appointment tomorrow, so very happy.

Also very nervous- this is my first confession ever- since being baptised in 2000. I fell away and have now been returning to the faith this Lent.

Please do pray for me!

I was really pleased to make my confession today and I am just wanting to record it here.

I hope to turn to this if I ever fall again or have low points. The priest said we all have low points- and I am on a high at the moment! So a warning- we WILL all sin again.

There is no shame in the soldier who falls- it is getting back up that counts.

I just want to share that the sacrament of reconciliation is a really beautiful and necessary jewel in the crown of our faith. We should use it and cherish it.

In reflecting on tomorrow, Good Friday, we should remember that in dying on the cross, Christ opened the door for us- we just have to walk through it. I believe in going to confession, we walk through the door and He greets us with open arms. The price has already been paid; Jesus left us with the Church; he told us to tell each other our sins, and whatever is forgiven on earth is forgiven in heaven.

I just wanted to add that my penance was to try to spend time before the lord in the blessed sacrament, to reflect on my faith and to ask God to strengthen me and keep me on this journey of return to the church. Also to pray that my wife finds her way to the church.

The ability we as Catholics have to go before our Lord in the blessed sacrament is another which we should cherish!

This makes me happy! Congratulations with your confession. Confession is not just for those who have fallen into mortal sin tough, it is very fruitful to receive sacrament of confession on a regular base, which doesn’t mean that you have to confess every week.

You are so right that there is no shame in a Christian falling and getting up again!!! A Priest friend of mine always told me: “A saint is a SINNER WHO KEEPS ON TRYING”. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus Bless You this Holy Easter for coming back to Him!!
