I am sure it will make it easier for people to locate black businesses. I am also pretty sure most white people won’t use it. I rarely bother to find out who the owner is of my favorite gyro place.

Is it? YELP can offer the service - I am sure they will benefit - that is the capitalist system - to see a need and fill a need. SO I think it sounds good is some aspects.

However, I am not 100% sure it may be all positive and could have some negative aspects … And what other groups do we search for by race? Hispanic, Asian, what about the LGBTQ, women owned businesses? … There are so many groups in America today - and I am not sure it is good to always put a person in a box based upon race, M / F , LGBTQ etc …

Can not these businesses market and or advertise themselves in whatever way they feel benefits them - Veteran Owned, Woman Owned, African American Owned, Mexican Owned, Italian Owned? Many businesses already do this - if that what they desire to be is beneficial? If people do not use the service - will that then be used to as a metric to decry racism?

I’m sure they already do. Also, Yelp is a service in which businesses can advertise.
And what other groups
Yelp specifically says that they have seen search queries for black owned businesses increase by 25x. They are responding to user behaviour. Significant increases in searching for other groups hasn’t been mentioned.

I talked to someone else and she told me that for her being black owned isn’t sufficient. She wants to know that they support BLM compatible causes as she didn’t want her money to support political positions such as those of Candace Owen’s (who is black and owns businesses).

I am glad she wants to make sure her money goes to worthy causes … I do the same thing … but there are many sides to every story … ActBlue was also discussed on another post … someone asking about the connection between BLM and ActBlue …
