Tip of the hat to joyinMO, but alas there is a certain lack of flow that a discussion has in this forum. I’m with you GEDDIE a live discussion offers risks but it does introduce a different dynamic and flow which fosters direct confrontation of false ideas, perhaps a useful tool for the new evangelization which beckons to those who trust the Holy Spirit in confronting the lies of the unholy spirit. Peace to all. Thanks for responding joyinMO and GEDDIE.

I’m surprised how many people think that just “trying to be a good person” or whatever gets a person into heaven. We should never forget that we are all born sinners, and we can’t atone all by ourselves. It seems not just Catholics but many, many other believe to road to heaven is wide, and the road to hell narrow.

Personally I think it just makes people uncomfortable. We live in a culture in which every faith is supposed to be buddy-buddy with each other and there’s no such thing as religious differences. We don’t like to think that someone so popular as the Dalai Lama, for example, could not be saved, because he’s been presented to us by the media as a perfect paragon of humanity. But no matter how many fans he has, he’s still a sinner. We all are.

I have spend many years chatting in chat rooms.

I prefer the forum.

At least you have a chance to edit your posts for charity and still it is a struggle for most of us.

Also, chat devolves into wasteful conversation on no particular topic and lots of “Hi there’s”.

But in chat rooms, you meet the atheist, the protestant, the fallen away and are able to confront their false understanding with the Truth. Every soul is precious to God and under attack by satan, we must meet the lie with the Truth. This is a place of comfort and renewal but also potentially one of complacency and safe harbor. Shouldn’t we brave the stormy seas?

I discovered Catholicism by reading these forums and I just made my one year anniversary.

If I was spending time hanging around in a chatroom, I would be busy making friends, making little witty comments, etc. I’m pretty sure we would not be having the deep conversations we have here.

When you walk the dusty streets, you do what God asks of His disciples. God loves every soul, and satan attacks every soul for that very reason. The Truth will always expose the lie, but it must be spoken among those most deceived.
