Yesterday I met Jesus

I took a short 25 minute train journey yesterday to one of my favourite churches . It is served by the Jesuits , and in the late 50s and early 60s I went to school just across the road from the church , the school also having been served by the Jesuits .

There is a photo of the church at the bottom . I hope you find it as beautiful as I do .

Anyway I had an encounter with Jesus . An elderly Jesuit came into one of the confessionals and in a loving way administered the Sacrament of Reconciliation . He said to me after I had confessed my sins , “God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit…”

WOW !!!

Aren’t those words beautiful ?

Through this elderly Jesuit celebrating this sacrament with me Jesus was there . Jesus was the main person in that confessional . Jesus came to me and gave me an assurance that He has forgiven my sins . As a Catholic I don’t know of a better way of getting that assurance of forgiveness …

I not only meet Jesus face to face but receive him into myself every day!! Wonder of wonders, joy of joy.
For anyone not Catholic reading this: let me tell you that this daily encounter really mitigates any fear of death. We meet Jesus all the time! It will be the same Jesus we meet at death.

I don’t know of a more beautiful parish church .

I am linked to it through going to the school which was linked to the church .

I am also linked to it through the statues of St Francis Xavier and St Ignatius of Loyola , and a crucifix which the church houses , and which came from the church where I was baptised and was an altar server for many years . Sadly that church had to be demolished .
