I haven’t had a chance to watch the whole thing, yet, and have only seen bits and pieces, but does anybody know what the symbolism is of the metalic piueces that were placed in the crosses of the Palium? I understand the Palium to be representative of the yolk of Christ, I would like to know what the other pieces represented.

The pins of the pallium were, in ancient times, used to keep the pallium from falling off the Bishop’s vestments. These days, they are more for weight than anything else, but the symbolisim is, as was previously noted, the nails of the crucifixion (side note, did anyone see where the third pin went? After the pallium was donned, for the life of me, I could only see two).

One thing that kinda bugged me was that there was no sprinkling rite or no genuine penitential rite… just a Kyrie with some other material added to it. This strikes me as somewhat odd. Any word on what that was all about?
