Loving your enemy does not necessarily mean having them come and live in your home. There are many ways to help without doing that.
No. But it means we are called to a higher and braver love than Israel was. A love that goes against our instincts.

Even when the vast majority have no mind to kill us, that doesn’t mean charity is defined exclusively as taking them in. Help them: feed, clothe, shelter, medical care can all be done without bringing them to an alien culture. In fact, I think, in many ways, the more charitable thing to do is help them there.

It doesn’t always mean we have to take them in. But sometimes it does in fact mean that.

Yes I agree, if we can make it so that the refugees don’t have to come half way across the world, we should. Most don’t want to relocate if it’s not necessary anyways.

But what if it is necessary? And they do need us to take them in? Then what? The UNHCR actually works initially to make it possible for the refugee to not have to leave his/her home. They only refer people to us who they think have compelling reason. Which is why I am hesitant to say they don’t need us to take them in. Relocation is always the last resort. The fact that they are being relocated means they truly are desperate.

I just don’t want to stand before God and say the reason I didn’t help was my fear. :nope:

I think “fear” is not necessarily the right term to be throwing around here. I think it is more “common sense”. Let’s exhaust getting the neighbors of the mid-east, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and others to chip in first. That way, they will culturally be more comfortable. That’s compassionate as well.

If what I’m seeing from the news media and Facebook is not fear, I don’t know what is. Common sense is not ruling the discourse in most corners, that’s for sure.

If you’re getting your information from Facebook, you’re using a very poor source. And, there is a network to counter any information that you get from another. Just because someone is “opposed” to a certain procedure doesn’t mean they are in “fear”. That kind of thinking could be said in complete contrast–those who are not cautious are being totally and ridiculously reckless and careless. That, too, is not the right approach—or wise.

I don’t think everyone who opposes refugees are doing so out of fear. But a lot are. Again, you’re not seeing the responses I’m seeing. Fear is the only word I can describe for it.

I don’t think I’ve read anyone who opposes refugees. What I am hearing is that people are very concerned about imbedded Islamic radicals within the midst of this current Syrian migration. The level of fear is justified, but that doesn’t excuse us from helping them, and helping them does not necessarily mean bringing them here.
