i ask does a person who claims some one else is not a christian have any right to claim that the non christian person respond to them in a charitiable manner…keep in mind the word charity in the christian sense means love…example: a baptist claims a catholic is a non christian, then says something demeaning about the catholic’s faith, when the catholic responds in a rude manner the baptist then says the catholic is not being charitiable…now how can the catholic respond with christian love to the baptist if the baptist says the catholic is not christian…it is like telling some they don’t have something then asking them for it.

Christians don’t have a monopoly on charity. 🤷

I don’t think it’s too much to ask that we all treat one another with politeness and respect, at the very least, regardless of our religious affiliation (or lack thereof).

The only difference is that Christians should be held to a higher standard since we *know *that not being charitable is a sin, and we will be held accountable.

hi wanner47 Christians are the only group i know of that use the word charity to mean love…in my understanding charity is meant as christian love not just love…it is a love that is given regardless of any merit of the one it is directed to…

I think the real problems lies with the interpretations in the mix. There is such a thing as objective truth. There are rights and wrongs. Just because someone says something to be true doesn’t make it so. Catholics try to show that the Catholic Church contains the fullness of the truth and that all Protestants come from them whether directly or indirectly. It they are not baptized in the correct formula then basically they are not properly baptized and thus not really baptized. And other point to make is that if the correct understanding of the Trinity is not held to then a baptism may come into questions depending on the factors.

A student does not tell the master what he means…or what is even correct. The master tells the students. The Catholic Church sets out in todays world to show Protestants that they broke away from the original Church that Christ intends all of us to belong to. enought of objective truth…

Now the charity in delivering the message can damage the relationship between opposing views. This is where people use words like “you going to hell”… “you’re not saved”…“your not a Christian” are used as a weapon of hate. It’s true that this is not always the intention…some folks really believe it and say it disturbed by what they believe to be true…even if it is grossly disordered.

When people are so wrong, as in the case of any person saying a Catholic is not a Christian, why even get upset about it. Just simply say, “that information is incorrect, you should investigate further” and walk away. What could stop them in their tracks quicker? You can offer a simply explanation if they ask for it, but there are only two things going on here, they know we are Christian and they are looking to get you upset, or they are truly ignorant and your comment with send them to investigate. If they are truly searching for God, they will find him through Jesus Christ.

Whether or not one is a “Christian”…be it Catholic or otherwise, and I use “Catholic”…because I am a “Catholic”…it is incumbent upon all of us to understand that there is a God given responsibility to treat our fellow humans as we expect to be treated. Its the “Golden Rule”. I know that people of non-Christian faiths, or at least many of them have something much akin to this in their religions.

Where we need to be careful…is in how we say things in print. I realize that I, for instance, can be very straightforward and even blunt in making a point. But, I realize that it is extremely difficult for some people to discern intent in writing. Smilies are corny, but they can convey some notion of emotion… and therein lies the trap. Without any actually clues to work with, it is easy to fall into the other trap of wrong discernment as to a person’s written intent.

This forum is a very good one because it is well moderated. And lest a non-Catholic think that they are moderated or chastised more than the Catholics are…please correct that notion. I have been called on the carpet by a moderator and warned. I’ll let it go at that.

Lets all play nice…OK?😃 👍 👍 👍

Peace!!
