and you are greatly distracted while in church. You can’t get your mind off a serious problem, for which there is, in all likelihood, no resolution. You are tempted to leave just before services start, but you walk out just to take a deep breath and return. It didn’t help, but at least you returned.
Should it then be considered to refrain from receiving? Would it be an absolute must to refrain? Anger as you have never experienced prior.

This could be listed on other forums, too. All thoughts and questions welcomed.

I am trying to explain this as best as possible. Forgive me.

Feelings are not sinful, but they can tempt us to sin. If a person in that state keeps fighting against the temptation to distraction and keeps dragging his mind back to the Mass, even if it slips away again a few seconds later, that is fine and I think receiving would do him good.

But if he spends his time in Mass fulminating and thinking of revenge, *on purpose, *then he should seriously consider the state of his soul.

This is why it is good to develop one’s custody of the mind: it is like taming something and then one is able to set aside distractions more easily. If one does this every day, the ability will be there when it is needed.

I was thinking of uncontrolled anger to a degeree that has never happened before and unfourtunately in church. No willful intention or action, but wondering about receiving while in this state; which perpetuates the distraction, in fact.

A lot of things can contribute to the distraction, a fight with the spouse, a traffic ticket, rude folks in church, etc. Perhaps more focus can be on Christ if communion is received later in the day? Proper disposition doesn’t always mean just fast and being in the state of grace.

Jesus preached the greatest commandments, but how could he love all his neighbours as he loved himself? Those who condemned him to death and nailed him to the cross, we know he prayed on the cross forgive them Father.

How could Jesus be angry with those he loved as himself?

In order to be forgiven, we should also forgive those who anger us, even though we have every right to be angry. It seems Jesus forgave those who should have angered him.

I say receive Jesus and ask Him to help you with the anger. That’s what He is there for. And He is the Prince of Peace. Who else could you turn to?

There is no one to forgive. Maybe that’s why it is angering; that and no recourse, no resolution, which shakes one’s faith to the bone.

Anyway, I wondered since there is no time for a confession, except directly to Him, if receiving would have been proper.

I would say an Act of Contrition & then receive Communion. You are a child of God. God knows of your anger as well as the root cause reason why even though you may or may not. God knows we have our human faults that we succomb to, but in his infinite mercy & love he forgives us. Remain at Mass, receive Communion & all the graces that go with it. God bless.
