You are the President of the US with two options before you... which do you choose

I ‘accidently answered b’ before I read the full senario… at first I thought I probably would have answered a, but after some thought I think I’ll stick with b.

Given our intelligence recently in Iraq, there is no way of telling if the nutcase will really fire his weapon. Second I would call the SOB and tell him point blank that IF he used a nuke on any country I would retaliate with a full nuclear strike anywhere I thought he would be, and if I didn’t get him with the first strike I would get him subsequently guaranteed.

The only way to deter a nutcase is to assure them that their destruction, immediately follows anyone elses. So unless the guy is suicidal, more than likely he would back down.

The intention isn’t to kill for kicks, it’s to avoid the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives. So naturally, I’d feel the rouge leader must go because, in a way, it is an act of self defense.

However, the blatant words “Thou shall not kill” stand pretty tall. Is there a time when it’s OK and when it’s not? I don’t know.

Which is worse, your action in killing one man or your inaction in letting hundreds of thousands die?

I don’t know the answer, and I don’t know which I’d choose. Truly a good question to the Original Poster…one I cannot answer 😦

Since I’m the prez and I can do darn well as I please, I choose none of the above. We’ve already got too many stupid foreign entanglements. Why do we have allies half way around the world anyway? Let 'em take care of their own backyard.

Now, leave me alone. Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd invited me over to their brownstone for a party tonight. Gotta go.

Can we have a serious question now ? Look at these quotes from the thread
Thou shalt stand by and allow 700,000 innocent people to die.
One life or 700,000?
killing one man or your inaction in letting hundreds of thousands die?
So do they mean that? Here is a better question a baby is found surviving a terrible and highly contagious disease. The baby is infected. There is no medical care or equipment available. Do you care for the baby risking not just your life but thousands of others or do you follow the advice above?

whatever you do, don’t let teddy offer you a ride home… i’m just sayin’
When you’re as pretty as I am, you never get in a car with a strange man.

But I would serenade Teddy with my heart rending version of Bridge Over Troubled Water.

care for the baby. no question. one life is worth the same as the whole of humanity. life is sacred and that one baby deserves care. my life is a blink of an eyelash, whats important on earth is how we treat the least of Christ’s people. That baby is as important as anyone who has ever lived. so i’d care for it at the risk of my own life.

so, a or b?

I don’t remember the passage in the bible that says:

Thou shalt kill leaders whom you do not like.
i remeber plenty of verses that tell me to defend the weak and defensless…It is ok to stop the senseless slaughter of innocents…if anyone were going to kill my child i would end their life without hesitation…

a “rouge leader” that would fire a nuke is already a tryant, and insane, and would have to be stopped with extreme prejiduce*spelling, is that good that i dont know how to spell the word prejudice] 🙂

me and the baby go off to die alone somewhere…the baby would not die alone, and would go to heaven…for i would baptize it, and then i would reamin in solitude and in prayer till i died…for me to get around others would be murderous if i know i have a highly contagious deadly disease…

i love scenarios 🙂

problem is, someone, or something had to give the baby the diesease…real life, it would be an huge plaugue no matter which way you sliced it.

A couple of observations here:

I keep hearing about shooting the nuke out of the sky: How do you know the leader is going to launch it? He migh just drive it into the country and remotely detonate it.

Another statement is that another leader, worse than the original, will rise up. Your intel is telling you that a military coup is almost certain following the assassination, with the military frinedly to the west.

Last, it seems that most of the people against both options have been quick to draw comparisons to the US/Bush; your bias is showing pretty darn quick and it’s pretty disgusting.

Final thoughts: choice A.

i almost woke my pregnant wife up by laughing out loud over that one. nice. well played, bombay… well played.
Me too … just replace pregnant wife with roommate.

On the topic I actually agree with Texas Roofer that this is a silly question and I immediately thought of about 20 different options in the scenario given.

However, for the sake of playing the game I negotiate. But again, my negotiation would never cause what your either/or scenario gives. Rather negations are taking place while military is mobilized to strike the launch pad within 2 hours of placing the phone call. So, really I too take option c because option a and option b are both silly.

We have spent the last 6 years under a “my way or the highway” philosophy. And of course the administration has yet to make a mistake.😉

Disgusting? Intentional yes.

Texas_Roofer:
let me rephrase that… “One INNOCENT life” ----- if you’re a dictator… all bets are off.
