When it’s prom night at the local high school and everyone shows up to see the Grand March.
I grew up in a suburb of Detroit (pop. 100,000) and all of the above were still true. I think I marched in all of my high school’s homecoming parades except for freshman year. Ditto for the city Memorial Day parades. My city has a HUGE annual homecoming festival every summer, with reunion tents for all four high schools in the city plus a couple of Catholic HS that have closed. People come back from all over the country for this festival. Senior skip day: check. Big party in the high school gym and cafeteria after graduation: check. Community full of older homes: check. I don’t have siblings, but my friends who did all ran into the sibling confusion at school. The poor band director had my redhead friend and two of her red-haired younger sisters all in class together one year. Good times. You were ever in the Homecoming parade.
You have ever gone home for Homecoming.
You had senior skip day.
The whole school went to the same party after graduation.
You refer to anyone with a house newer than 1980 as the “rich
people”.
Your teachers call you by your older siblings’ names.
Awesome!!! I grew up in Fergus County!!! I know all about small!!
Now THAT’S service!… the “bank lady” makes house calls.
Folks call her and she visits to let housebound bank clients cash checks or do paperwork.
We got to know her pretty well. She doesn’t advertise her religious preferences … but when we mentioned a Catholic Deacon/social worker who had been helpful to an elderly relative of ours, the bank lady let it slip that her husband was in the same Deacon “graduating” class / ordination group as the fellow who was so helpful to us.Now THAT’S service!
Hey! We resemble that remark:tiphat: HowdyThe “road hog” in front of you on Main Street is a farmer’s combine.
too too funny…
You’ll have to stop for Mass sometime, but not this summer as I’ll be off serving in the Air Force.Awesome!!! I grew up in Fergus County!!! I know all about small!!
We Drive through Garfiel county all the time when we go ‘home’!
When do you leave? Thanks for your service. You’ll have to stop for Mass sometime, but not this summer as I’ll be off serving in the Air Force.
My largest parish has invited the other two communities over for Mass and a pot luck tomorrow. It is getting close. When do you leave? Thanks for your service.
I will be coming through at some point in the near future…my dad was just diagnosed with Stage 3 Lymphoma so I am going to stay with him for a week or so when he starts chemo.
If you have a mailman and a traffic light, you are no longer small. My mother has lived in a small town the past 40 years, and you know it because:
Her husband is the mailman and his brother is the Postmaster.
There is only 1 traffic light in the whole place. . . …
