Hi,
Im an Evangelical born again christian but you would like me:D 😉 Im not pushy:thumbsup:
Oh, I know. What I was saying was just a generalization. I just don’t like the evangelical culture. I feel as if it tries way too hard to fit in with whatever’s happening, and that’s not what the Church has been called to do. There are plenty of individual Evangelicals out there who I’d get along with just fine, some of my friends, for example. I can’t say I don’t have problems with the culture, however.

I didn’t know there were THAT many wannabes here. 😉

Perhaps it’s the topic of a separate thread, but I wonder what keeps us true wannabes that really seem to yearn after Catholicism from converting?

You know you’ve been studying too much Catholicism when you seriously consider setting up a bunch of votive candles in your house to light for prayers.

Or maybe when those Holy Cards with the Blessed Virgin start calling to you!

Or you have a sudden urge to put blessed palms behind your pictures.

Or when bright, shiny ropes of beads start looking really attractive.

You know you’ve been studying too much Catholicism when you thought that candle snuffers were only used in church.😃 I went to a Party Light candle party several years ago and found out that candle snuffers are available for home use. I bought one. I had always blown out the candles at home before. I never heard of a candle snuffer for anything but church until I was 32 years old.:o

I am very curious about this too. A lot of non-Catholics here are better Catholics than most Catholics. Why don’t you convert? Is there a thread on this?

Haven’t you seen any Disney Christmas movies? I think the Scrooge or Mickeymouse (or Donald Duck) used a Candle Snuffer. 😃

Three words on Why Not Convert: family, family, family.

As far as studying too much Catholicism: I have been an extremely studious Protestant Christian for 34 years (since I was 13), but in the past several years I find myself saying over and over, “Why didn’t I ever see this in the Bible?” As a Protestant, you really do read the Bible with different eyes. Reading it as a wannabe Catholic is like suddenly being able to see a different color: It seems to show up everywhere, in places you’d never seen it before.

The biggest turning point for me: When I suddenly realized all the Christians I respected most and enjoyed reading most (Augustine, Aquinas, Newman, Maritain, McInerny, Budziszewski, Kreeft, and so on) were all Catholics.

You see a few Mardi Gras beads (at the time, I really didn’t know what they were), and you think it’s a Rosary. :o (then you see it’s missing something)

When someone says something bad about the CC and I defend the CC with a correct answer:D

AND I’M NOT CATHOLIC:eek: 👍
And me, too.

On this other forum, apparently everyone thought I was Catholic, even after telling them I wasn’t a few times. (It sunk in after about the 6th time)

No. I’m single with no kids, and I don’t know when the Disney Christmas movies originally came out. Maybe more recently, when I already was a teen or adult; or maybe they were in the theatres a long time ago, before I was born. I just know that my parents never took me to see a Disney Christmas movie as a kid.

LOL!
I once accidently grabbed my charm necklace, thinking it was my rosary, and began to pray with the little charms hanging down. Noticed after a minute what I had done! I’m sure Mary got a bit of a chuckle out of it.😊

They’ve been on TV for decades. I think it’s the Mickey Mouse one (Mickey playing Scrooge) that uses the candle sniffer. (There might be an old Porky Pig cartoon where he can’t get to sleep all nice, and he’s fighting a trick-candle with a candle sniffer).

And I was wondering why they were kind of big. 😃

I’ve never seen it, although I did watch ***Wonderful World of Disney ***when I was a kid.

LOL, I am sooo glad that I am not the only one who thought funny things! 👍

How so?

To answer this question, I will say that for a time I was seriously considering converting to either Catholicism or Orthodoxy, but was very much scared off by all the Marian doctrine. But that’s another thread…

Now to the original question…

How about when you get into a heated discussion with a Catholic coworker about how many Holy Days of Obligation there are…

And then both of you start trying to name them and add them up to see…

And then both of you try to figure out whether Easter counts as one just because it’s Easter or simply because it’s always on a Sunday (ie, is there a double obligation for Easter Day or not)…

And the whole conversation got started because said coworker thought that August 16th was August 15th, and said she was going to attend Mass because it was a Holy Day of Obligation, and you blurted, “But I thought the Assumption was yesterday”…

And yes, this really did happen to me, and I really am Protestant… 🙂

When we had the big blackout on 14 August 2003, I went to the Assumption Vigil Mass. I couldn’t do much of anything else with the entire city shut down (other than sit outside on the lawn and talk to my neighbours outside my apartment building). I figured we would still have Mass. I was right. The church was lit with candles, and we even had music (no organ, but the piano was nice). It was one of my favourite Masses so far.

:rotfl: Ok, that one really cracked me up.

  1. You start pronouncing Protestant as “Protest Ant.”
  2. You mentally or verbal/written add Hertic after Protestant and or call Protestants just that.
  3. You realize this wont help Mother Church so you hit yourself. HARD!
Similarly…
  1. You start looking down at non-traditionals
  2. You wish for another Tomas de Toqumada
  3. You realise that turning on your own breathern wont help Mother Church so you hit yourself. HARD! AGAIN!
