You May be surprised but as a Baptist I do believe that Jesus started one univeral church. I also believe that holy men of God from this universal church gathered ,assembled and preserved all the sacred writings just as holy men of God wrote the sacred scriptures.
I believe that the Catholic Church is like a pot of Gold. I also believe that one day God is going to put this pot of gold to the fire and all the dross (false doctrine) is going to come to the top and God will skim it off and purify his church.

From Wise Old Blackstone

some questions…How do you know that the dross is false doctrine? According to the dictionary dross is waste or foreign matter…impurity…trivial or inferior.

What false doctrine are you speaking of?

Blackstone:

Please specify all the impurities that you speak of. It’s hard to have a discussion with a generalization…let’s get into the specifics.

Thanks.

Since the Catholic Church believes that all protestants are part of the Her–containing partial truth but not the fullness of truth–when the pot of gold is placed on the fire, all the errors of protestantism will come to the top for a proper skimming.

You walked right into that one wise old blackstone! 😛

Hi Blackstone,

I wonder how the Baptist Church - which came hundreds & hundreds of years after the one true Universal Church that Jesus Himself founded fits into the scheme of things… in your opinion?

From… not so wise & not so old

Don;t you see that after the dross is skimmed off the gold the church will be Baptist.

Not at all. For if that were the case then Jesus’ promise that the Holy Spirit would lead the Church into all truth would have been a lie. There are no “dross” doctines in the Catholic Church. I suggest you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church to see what the Church actually teaches. That is if you want to know the truth of the matter instead of assuming you must be right?

Which one would that be now??? :hmmm: Free Will, Independent, SB or any other variation. Seems they have had so much dross in the short time they have been around, they can’t agree whats dross and whats doctrine, so it’s splits ville at the drop of a hat for them. :rotfl:

I’ve read numerous postings by Baptists on their forum, and this self-righteous, anti-catholic attitude portrayed by Blackstone is pretty widespread over there.

It’s a shame.

Mike

Then John Smith trumped the Holy Spirit? Wow. Think of all the people who lived a lie from 33 AD to 1607 AD (or was it 1609 AD?). What happens to them?

Blackstone is willing to concede the Church knew what it was doing up until the 4th century when it put out the books of the Bible, but after that is when the Holy Spirit decided to ipso facto desert her and let us all twist in the wind until John Smith came along. Nope, still doesn’t seem very likely to me! :bounce:

You poor misguided protestant you.
If you’d like to know what The Catholic Church really believes and teaches, just ask.
You might be the “suprised” one.

P.S. Why does your profile say you have no religion but now you claim to be a baptist?

Listening to Ken Hensley’s conversion, he mentioned something that I never realized…many of the claims that the CC has gone astray or apostasized or became corrupt during the 4th century or whatever century speaks of it as though it was an event…and if the universal church did “lose it” there should have been a difinitive break and not slap dash like the reformation. But the ones who claim this today will not point to specific and truly historical event that made the church “corrupt.”

Blackstone: your opinion that all will become Baptist is a bit unbiblical. Great to have you here.

There wasn’t a single baptist until the 17th century. There wasn’t a single man before then that would agree with the tenets of the baptists. Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp, Justin, Irensaus, Cyprian, Basil, John Chrysostom, Gregory Nyssa, Gregory Nazianzen, Augustine, Jerome, Ambrose, Leo, and Gregory were all Catholic.

Wow. Well if that happens you can be the first to say I told you so!

You would have to Chuck the whole baby with the bathwater…It would definately be more than just skimming…

If you are going to post subjects like this Blackstone you should back it up with some references. You are essentially saying that the Catholic Church is corrupt to a bunch of Catholics, which if you understood it correctly would be calling the Body of Christ corrupt. This is a pretty insulting statement without you even putting forth any reference to base your statement.

This is like me saying your mother is a junkie, without having anything to prove it or any reason other than to insult you or start a fight. Now if it is true then I should give you some proof that your mother is a junkie and let you know respectfully so you can get her into rehab or something, without just getting mad at me.

God Bless
