As opposed to Christian?
Don’t want to be confused with those poor, misinformed, sola scriptura crowd? 🙂
But the “Christian” label is very important to me. I have a Pentecostal brother. We are both Christian. We are united in Christ.
I honestly feel that many Protestants are pleasing God better than some Catholics. In the way they love their neighbour. Which is the bottom line really.
“They’ll know we are Christians by our love”
“They’ll know we are Catholics by our …”?

I am Christian by being Catholic. I will not complicate the matter. For me, it is both simultaneously.

I identify as Catholic (Latin rite).

Of course, I went to daily mass for about 9 months while I was in RCIA unable to call myself Catholic or receive Holy Eucharist. The name means something to me. I worked for it.

I much prefer Christian. I believe in the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church but in many ways that is often as well represented by non Catholics as by Catholics. We are all saved by Christ.

Catholic. It’s a complete description. All Catholics are Christian. Not all Christians are Catholic.

I am both a Christian and a Catholic equally. When someone says they are Christian I do not automatically think they are Protestant.

Now, if someone were to ask me what religion I am, I would most likely identify as “Catholic” in anticipation of the follow-up question of “what denomination?” Because when I was a kid, everyone - protestants and Catholics a like often asked “which denomination are you?”

However, I know today people ask that less, but out of habit if someone tells me they are Christian, I would normally ask which denomination.

HOWEVER, I do not prefer one over the other because it is impossible to be Catholic without being Christian.

God Bless.

They’'ll know we are Catholics by:

our respect for the Pope
our veneration of Mary
our sacraments
the way we send our kids to catholic schools
the way we don’t think we need to be “saved” again as Adults
the way we value works as much as faith

BTW - one of the biggest pet peeves I have is when some says “I’m not Christian, I’m Catholic”

When I hear or see that, I want to scream

Being a member of the Catholic Church has a very special meaning to me, since I fully believe that
[t]his is the one Church of Christ which in the Creed is professed as one, holy, catholic and apostolic, which our Saviour, after His Resurrection, commissioned Peter to shepherd, and him and the other apostles to extend and direct with authority, which He erected for all ages as “the pillar and mainstay of the truth”. This Church constituted and organized in the world as a society, subsists in the Catholic Church, which is governed by the successor of Peter and by the Bishops in communion with him, although many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside of its visible structure. These elements, as gifts belonging to the Church of Christ, are forces impelling toward catholic unity.
But not to be misunderstood, I am aware that indeed many elements of santification and truth are found outside the visible structure of the Catholic Church 🙂

I just sense elitism when I hear that. Pride. Its sinful really.

I must admit - I have never heard any such ridiculous thing.
I’ve heard it listening to Catholic radio - where the host has had to correct the caller.

I’ve also read it online some places.

Absolutely! Christ founded the Catholic Church.
This reminds me of something I heard on the radio the other day.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, ask Siri the following questions:

“Who founded the Methodist Church?” - Siri says “John Wesley”
“Who founded the Lutheran Church?” - Siri answers with “Martin Luther”
“Who founded the Anglican Church?” - Siri answers with King Henry VIII
“Who founded the Eastern Orthodox Church?” - Siri provides a number of articles regarding the history of Eastern Orthodoxy.

“Who founded the Catholic Church?” - Siri promptly and verbally replies with “Jesus Christ founded the Catholic Church.”

God Bless! 😎

If not for the Catholic Church, I’d leave this Christianity thing all together.

I’m Catholic or I’m nothing.

Same. If the Catholic Church isn’t true, I would take a brief look at Eastern Orthodoxy and if that didn’t work head on over to Judaism.

I would prefer Saint. Or “The Great one”. But my wife says “in your dreams” . However, Catholic is a close second. There was a time when the only Christians were Catholics.
