You prefer to be known as a Catholic first and foremost?

BTW - one of the biggest pet peeves I have is when some says “I’m not Christian, I’m Catholic”
Mine is hearing, “I’m not Catholic, I’m Christian.”
Yeah, that too

I would use Christian and Catholic interchangeably. I prefer Christian but knowing the reality of many Christian denominations, I would like to be known as Catholic Christian. Saying myself a Catholic is simply clarifying that I am, and not other Christians, but yet I prefer being known as a Christian because that is what Catholic is - perhaps the right kind of Christian.

I am Catholic. I am a Christian. What the world sees me as doesn’t matter. How God sees me does.

For me Christian fits better, I fully embraced my faith in an ecumenical community and have a lot of non-Catholic Christian friends I pray with

It is not either/or but both/and which is the most typical way Catholic explain faith. The other one is “here and now but not yet”. In the councils 325 and 381, the creeds were agreed upon that we all confess “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church”. The problem is that most of the protestant churches have removed Catholic and use “worldwide” or “universal” instead. Those councils as well as 5 more are called the “Ecumenical councils”.

When I hear or see that, I want to scream
The first time I ever saw someone say that was on Amazon. I was stunned that there are Catholics who will proudly call themselves Catholic but don’t consider themselves Christians.

I also think it’s sad that as Catholics, we sometimes must refer to ourselves as Catholic Christians when Protestants claim we aren’t Christians because we’re Catholic.

I miss the good old days before widespread schism and heresy when ‘Christian’ and ‘Catholic’ were synonymous with each other.

I use the two interchangeably or I’ll combine them by saying I’m a ‘Catholic Christian’.

I’d probably be something that doesn’t require a lot of effort 😁
