I haven’t looked at every part of the site (it is quite large) but I fail to see what would warrant an “R” rating. The things I did check out looked pretty good.

That pic you posted was not during a Mass, it was most likely from a social function. (some sort of mock awards show night).

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts about what is so bad about the site…

The fact that they are dressed as KISS is sickening. Do you know what KISS stands for? Knights in Satan Service.

The R rating I was talking about is www.lifeteen.com. The subject matter discussed on that website is adult content.

Feanaro's Wife:
OK. You are entitled to your opinion.

Seriously, would any want your child or teen to talk about adult things, like in the lifeteen website or be exposed to satanic bands such as Knights in Satan service? It may be my opinion but the future is at stake.

Um…no it doesn’t. That is a popular myth started by the angry parents in the “RocknRoll is Satan’s Music” Club. Next thing you know you are going to break out the record player and The Beatles “White Album” and inform us that “Paul is dead”.

Sure, KISS is a Rock band and they glorify the sex drugs and RocknRoll lifestyle…but just because someone dresses up for them on Halloween or a costume party doesn’t mean they endorse it. I was a adult volunteer with Life Teen and you are working with teenagers and you do fun things with them. You joke with them and pray with them and build up trust with them so they have someone that they can talk to on their walk toward Holiness.

You are kidding, right? If you want the teens to take you seriously you need to take them and their questions seriously. I like how the website is appealling visually and has an open atmosphere where teens are encouraged to search for the Truth or Church offers.

Lifeteen is a liberal, teen chat website.

The subject content is not different to other websites, and the only way one can see it is Catholic is through it telling you its so.

There are threads about “Im homosexual and God loves me anyway” with people responding “God loves you whatever you are and whatever you do”. Posters condoning homosexuality so long as they felt it was OK.

Stay away from this website, and definitely do not allow your children to go to it. It is liberal trash.

In Christ.

Andre.

If we were looking at the same thread, I think you only read the first three posts. After that there are teens quoting the bible, and (gasp) the CCC, and defending the Church’s position. Yes, there are some people who post on the LifeTeen boards who don’t follow the teachings of the Church, but if that is your criteria for visiting a web site, I’m wondering why post here. We have all seen trolls post, it doesn’t invalidate the rest of the site.

Yours in Christ,
Thursday

I am sorry but that is not what KISS stands for. That is an urban myth. Come on now. This was obviously a youth group function and not a mass. They were making fun of something and you know it. You anti-life teener’s need to get a reality check. It like you guys are just looking for something to be offended by.

Can you please provide examples?
Some times they discuss sexuality because that is something that teens need to confront. No sense it pretending like it doesn’t exist. That would be the protestant way of dealing with things.

I’ve never seen the site, so can’t comment on that site. But, we had one (I believe a troll)here Promoting her co-habitation while putting down a fictional, yes racy, but again fictionally TV show. She quoted “God wants us together and our love is pure, marriage not important now” and fought with anyone who said anything against her choice. This one too, thankfully disapeared. If this was the first time someone read these formuns and only looked at that thread and only seen a few posts, they would think what kind of Catholic’s are these?:hmmm:

Oh no, I totally agree. I just want him to substantiate his claim. There is nothing inappropriate about dicussing human sexuality, especially since it is the biggest temptation of our current culture.

Thanks for all the great posts everyone. I realized as soon as I posted that I was dealing with someone who had a very closed mind and nothing I said or did would get through, so I decided not to pursue it. I’m glad you all did though!

As one posters have correctly mentioned, although it is an urban myth that KISS stands for Knights in Satin’s Service, the band did promote a non-Christian lifestyle.

I believe most Protestant youth groups would not promote a picture of a kid in a KISS costume, but would rather promote Christian rock bands. Protestants have been very successful in alternative marketing of the Christian faith rather than just saying no to the dominent culture. Almost every secular rock band promotes non-Christian messages, some completely hostile.

Should Catholics do a better job of marketing to youth through “Catholic Rock,” tell youth to says rosaries, etc. and avoid the dominant culture, or promote an alternative such as classical music?

Lifeteen isn’t overseas?

Only 3.5 more years until I am, as well. I am counting down!!!

May I ask why you are counting down the time until you move overseas?

Peace,
