Father has asked a group of us to head a young adult ministry group. We have all decided we don’t want it to be an academic based group, meaning we want a more relaxed, no homework environment since young adults are very busy! Our age group is 21-early 30’s. I’m just curious what your parish does for young adult ministry as in events, discussions, etc. This is something that is really lacking in the area we live in and we hope to eventually extend it to other parishes in our community. Thanks in advance 👍

At our parish, our most successful young adult activities are the Youth Choir and service projects such as outings to the homeless shelter to serve the dinner, or making sandwiches for poor children, and that sort of thing.

I agree that, no matter what you do, it has to be a no-pressure environment where people can drop in and participate as they have the time and the inclination. Remind them to bring their friends.

It’s also very important to respect exam schedules, and don’t have high expectations of attendance during exam times.
 
Have you looked into Theology on Tap. That seems to be very successful in many areas of the country. Our bishop even comes to them once in awhile. Of course the young adults have to be over 21 to attend since it is in a pub.
 
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has a very successful Young Adult ministry at both the diocesan level and parish level.

Particularly the links towards the bottom regarding starting a YA ministry.

I ran the YA ministry at my old parish for over 7years. Not for the faint of heart. But very worthwhile. Our ministry focused on social, spiritual, sports and service-- the 4S’s.

And, ask your priest to spring for training-- NCYAMA would be ideal. If nott, perhaps a nearby diocese (or even your own diocese… check out the resources they have).

How large is your parish? Are you a young adult yourself or are you older?

If this is a Lay-catholic group; is your entent purely social or do you wish to actually learn WHAT we Catholics believe and WHY?

5000 families, I as well struggle with ideas of how to engage the youth. I welcome any and all ideas. God bless
