I have given money to people a quite few times. You never know what a person is really like just because of what they are wearing, never judge a book by its cover.
I only give them small amounts so they can get the bus or something to eat. I will save the best donations for the organizations that help people. Occasional I will say no if I can smell booze or if they’re too aggresive because I no longer feel safe.

However, with my experience working in homecare I have learned that if you are going to truely help someone, you can only do so by putting all judgements aside.

I do not give anything to any kids/young adults who look the way you describe. The kids/young adults who dress in the punk/goth way who panhandlle around here just need to grow up and get a job. Think about it… the way they look costs money. Tatoos are expensive, piercings are expensive. That eccentric clothes they wear sometimes look like they cost money too. They probably have rich parents. If they were really starving, they would attempt to go get a job. There is a day labor place in my town that I used in-between jobs years ago. A lot of homeless people survive off that agency and I never see them begging.

Some are homeless, and I would gladly help out someone that I can tell is homeless and possibly hungry. Some are drug addicts. If a 14-16 year old kid is begging for money you can bet hes trying to get atleast 10 dollars to buy a sack of marijuana. But my experience with the gothic looking beggers is just that being a “Non conformist” is more important that looking for a job. They get nothing from me.
