For those of you who believe in a young earth, please list 20 scientifically sound reasons why you believe this. Excluding ocean sediments, salt content and magnetic fields, which I’ve already read about.

Someone would only need to do that if they wanted to convince you that it was true. If they are happy with them believing in it and you not believing in it then they don’t need to give you an explanation

Are there really that many Catholics who believe in young earth creationism? I have a difficult time understanding the purpose of the thread on the apologetics philosophy forum.

Fundie Christian forums would probably provide the answers you’re looking for as a lot more of them believe in a young earth than Catholics on this forum.

Why do you concern yourself with why Young Earth Creationists believe what they believe? Why not just let them hold the belief?

A similar thread here, started just four hours earlier:

I am having a little trouble with Genesis Apologetics
I want to be a good Catholic and obey everything God teaches, but one thing i am struggling with is the first chapters of Genesis. I hear some people say how we need to take these first chapters literally and that evolution is a lie, right now I am feeling confused, you see I am kinda of drawn to believe in evolution because of the evidence but I feel like it is incompatible with Christianity. As for the young earth idea I found the idea preposterous, I cant believe it even though I tried to bec…
I find it a bit odd that we see so many threads about this here at CAF. Do people never look to see whether someone else is asking the same question?

No. It’s a small subset of primarily American conservatives Catholics who picked it up from the Protestant fundamentalists.

I believe it is very small. Perhaps the thread would be more appropriate on the non-catholic religions forum.

I’ve never personally encountered one in all my many years.
… And even if I were to meet one tomorrow, I don’t suppose the conversation would be either lively or interesting.

Either way the Church takes no position on young vs old earth and we Catholics are free to believe any of these and be good Catholics.

I think the Church has made it clear the OT is not all literal.

Heck, the Church assembled a bible with two different creations stories, which should convince most readers right there that Genesis can’t be literal.

I obviously don’t know the motivation behind the OP but it is possible that they want to be convinced that it is true and therefore looking for apologetics on the matter.

The Church takes a very definite view that there can be no conflict between faith and reason. Any reasonable conclusion at this time is that the Earth is pretty dang old. So, perhaps the myriad of physical evidence has been misinterpretted, but the odds are very, very small. So, as a Catholic, it seems very hard to accept a young earth theory.

From her previous threads she wants to leave the Church and the churches she likes believe in it.

Yep. And there are YEC here on these forums. Isn’t Buffalo one?

You seem really fixated on this question. Maybe finding a forum with a higher percentage of evangelicals/YEC types would yield the discussion you want to have. Most people here are Catholics who aren’t YEC, and even if they are, they’re not going to be interested in helping you rationalize leaving the Church.

Obviously, it’s your life, but I’m just not sure Catholic Answers is the best venue for the kind of discussions you seem to want to have.

The only ones I’ve encountered were in this forum.

Never met one in real life.

Tongue firmly in cheek alert!
From other arenas of life, what I have heard goes something like… “wull, mah buy-bull says rat cheer that it wuz six dayuz.”

No one as yet has been able to answer whether God wore a Rolex or a Timex.
