Is this a cult?
I’ve heard it was a protestant-based christian outreach program. My recollection from past reading is that Young Life was the organization that first brought Scott Hahn to Christ. It probably has a very “bible-only” point of view, but I don’t think it considers itself to be a separate denomination or separated from the larger fundamentalist/evangelical christian community.

As for being a “cult” I think that is a very loaded term that really does not lead to a positive and beneficial discussion. Can you be more specific regarding your concern about the group?

Peace,
Robert

My grandson has some friends who belong and he has fears its a cult.
I looked at there website and it seemed like a normal bible based youth group
Thank you for your reply

Before my conversion to Catholicism I was a full-time paid staff member of YL for 12 years. It does meet the criteria defining a cult. As a staff person all of our effots were centered around getting kids to attend a week of YL camp. At this camp the kids are put through an emotional rollercoaster and deliberatley exposed to many emotional highs and lows. At the heart of it is convincing kids that it is the “best week of their life”. This is accomplished by use humor and adventure. The days at YL camp are very high activity then in the evening the sleep deprived kids enter what is called “club”. Here secular music is played in a progression from fast to slow songs and skits are proformed. Sereral times throughout the hour event video highlights are shown of the days activities and it will flash “YL camp the best week of your life” At the end of every club a 10-20 minuet talk is given about living out the protestant faith. It sells kids on a false yet very fun theology i.e.,God is fun. The ultimate goal is that these kids go back to their schools and tell how great YL is. The impetus is at 600 dollars a kid for a week at camp YL made 42 million off of camping alone last year. Please brothers and sisters of the Holy Catholic Church do not let your kids go to YL. They will be emotionally manipultated. I would love to answer any other questions you may have.
